Attention! Shields to the Royals for Wil Myers

Kansas City and Tampa Bay have agreed to a trade that will send pitchers James Shields andWade Davis from the Rays to the Royals for top prospect Wil Myers, sources confirmed Sunday. Other players are involved in the trade, a source said, but they couldn't immediately be confirmed.
The teams laid the groundwork for a deal during last week's winter meetings in Nashville, and a source said the talks gained momentum over the weekend.

    Moar,

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals have acquired starting pitchers James Shields andWade Davis from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Wil Myers and a package of minor league prospects.
The blockbuster deal announced late Sunday night is the Royals' most aggressive move yet under general manager Dayton Moore to shore up a starting rotation that has been abysmal for years. But doing so came at the cost of Myers, the minor leagues' top player last season, and a couple more top prospects.
The Rays also are getting right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who would have competed for a spot in the Royals' rotation this season, along with left-hander Mike Montgomery and third baseman Patrick Leonard. Kansas City also will receive a player to be named or cash.

Poor Royals fans. They waited a long time for their team to make a daring move because management had been too cheap, but now that they pulled one off, they're getting ripped for giving up apparently too much for a pitcher who's signed through just two more years.

It's just that the Rays have so much at the starters position. If it was Moore, or Price instead of Sheilds, we may even say the same thing about this trade.

On a personal level this one hurts, Shieldsy has been such a great pitcher and person for this team. Hopefully he can continue his run and help the Royals as well as WD40, what a great job he did when relegated to the pen last year very unselfish team kind of guy.

David Price will have to get a new partner in crime for his dugout antics and there will be a tug of war over the 33 with Guthrie.

Look forward to seeing this kid Myers that’s so highly being touted. Hopefully, this works out for both sides in the long run. I already know he’ll look good in the KC colors they are a bit similar to the Rays.

BIG downside, Royals don't train in Florida

(BTW, celebrity sightings of the week....Carl Nicks (Buccaneers though injured) and the newest National Denard Span)

Here's what happens if you plug the KC/TAM trade into the OOTP trade engine
