    MLB Ben Sheets coming back?

Righty Ben Sheets threw for scouts today in Monroe, Louisiana, MLBTR has learned. Scouts from the Phillies, Braves, Yankees, and Angels were in attendance.

Sheets, 33, signed a one-year, $10MM deal with the Athletics in January 2010 despite missing all of the '09 season due to a partial tear in the flexor tendon near his right elbow. He made 20 middling starts for the A's in 2010 before going down for a second flexor tendon procedure in August. At the time, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Sheets actually had three procedures done on his elbow, including Tommy John surgery.

Word is that Sheets didn't want to return to baseball unless he felt 100%, and he'd like to help a team down the stretch. Assuming he flashes his old form in throwing sessions, Sheets will be a popular free agent this summer.
Can he do it? I think not but have been wrong before

Pettitte has been just ridiculous this season. Age 39 and off for a year, with injury, and he comes back throwing like he has? Unreal.

If Ben Sheets can show the scouts that he's healthy and has decent stuff, someone will take a flyer on him.

Throw him a minor league deal, you're not investing much at all, and who really knows. Considering what we're seeing with a lot of veterans pitching late in their 30's and some in their 40's, Sheets is only 33. Could easily be a low risk high reward situation. And if he flames out, then you don't lose much.

I mean, Kevin freakin' Millwood has been halfway decent this season.

Milwood didn't have 3 elbow surgeries in the past 3 years though and was good last year too.

The interesting thing about Millwood is that he is leaning to be a groundball pitcher this year, versus the historically flyball tendency pitcher he usually is.

Well, I say what works in Sheets favor is Reefer doubting him.

I'm glad the Pirates didn't get reamed on that deal.

Well, hey, Sheets found a home. On the Braves.

    Re: Ben Sheets coming back?

CBSSports.com confirms Ben Sheets will make his regular-season debut Sunday against the Mets.
The Braves are desperate for starting pitching with Randall Delgado and Mike Minor struggling. Sheets hasn't appeared in the majors since 2010, but was reportedly clocked in the 89-93 mph range in two minor league starts. A corresponding move will be announced later this week.
    That was quick

According to reports he going to pitch tomorrow, Braves sending Randall Delgado to the minors.

Another one of those what could have been stories. I remember him in the 2000 Olympics, I think he even pitched a complete game in the Gold Medal round. Saw him pitch during spring training in AZ in 2002 even got to chat with him and Richie Sexson for a few moments. So much promise and so many injuries.
