With Latos, Marshall, and now Madson joining the Reds pitching staff... its fair to say that Jocketty did some work this offseason to address needs.

Good for both the Reds and Madson that it is only a one year deal. The Reds smell blood in the water and are going for it all! Jocketty sees that the Central is very winnable now that Pujols has left the Cards and with the Brewers losing Fielder and then Braun for 50 games. I thought they underperformed last year but expect much better results this year.

Madson signed for a base salary of $8.5 million plus incentives with an option for 2013. Deal looks even better now.

I've read that 8.5 mil is a 6 mil base salary plus 2.5 mil buyout on a mutual option for 2013 (would be 11 mil). Either way BRILLIANT move Walt!

I like this move. The Reds, as was said, have a real chance to win their division, or at least the WC if they play well. This could be their last opportunity to do so as Rolen and Phillips are signed through next season and Votto through 2013.
