Trade Reds/Cubs Trade: Marshall for Wood and two MiLB

Sean Marshall for Travis Wood Trade in works

I don't know how I feel about this... Travis Wood is a very solid lefty, of which the reds are very light at. Although if this goes through they have made up thier mind that Chapman Starts next season. And my guess is Marshall would be the Closer in Cincy...

You should feel awesome, it's a great upgrade for the bullpen and does get you a guy who could be the closer.

There had better be more coming back than just Marshall because as I've said before relievers are what you add to trades to bring in value not acquire with valuable pieces. All the rumors I have read is Marshall for Wood and two prospects which is insane when you consider Marshall can walk at the end of this season (not to mention how flamable most relievers are).

I'll do a little dance if we can pry Wood plus two prospects from Cincy for Marshall.

But over the past two years Marshall has been one of the most dominant relievers in the game. I've never felt as comfortable with a late lead than when Marshall is mowing down lineups in the 7th/8th/9th.

I agree with Slyder on this one. That is a lot to give up for just a reliever who will be a free agent after the season. I just don't see how giving up a starter PLUS two prospects for a reliever is a wise move.

I never said it wasnt too much to give up. I think the Cubs won this deal by a lot, and I understand why Reds fans would be upset. I would be too if I was in their shoes.

I just think he's underrating Marshall a little bit. Relievers are a dime a dozen, but a Marshall type isn't.

If the Reds can extend Marshall and bring in a closer, I'll be okay with this deal. The Cubs won it, but its clear the Reds/Jocketty are going all in for 2012 and Marshall helps with that.

Relievers are still so violatile history is strewn with relievers who have 1 or 2 good years and then suck for the duration of their careers for every Mo Rivera or Arthur Rhodes who put up a long career.

Agreed, however Marshall showed some nice trends. He has two great seasons, two good seasons, and two mediocre seasons. But the trend I like is that he was once prone to giving up the longball but has become an extreme groundball pitcher, with a 1.52 GB/FB ratio. That combined with an increased K/9 are both good signs... not guarantees, but promising.
