Rangers post highest bid on Yu

Yu Darvish revealed on his personal blog that he will be posted for major league teams on Thursday.
Darvish has already drawn speculative interest from some of baseball's biggest spenders and is likely to cash in this winter on a market short on quality starting pitching. The 25-year-old right-hander posted an 18-7 record, a 1.44 ERA and a 276/36 K/BB ratio in 232 innings this past season for the Nippon Ham Fighters. Let the bidding begin.

The Jays, Rangers and Yankees are all expected to be bidders. For what it's worth, Bobby V said Darvish was one of the best pitchers he has ever seen.

They said the same thing about Irabu, Dice K, Igawa. I wish the yanks would pass on this and just sign someone established, history shows these Japanese guys can't cut it in MLB where not everyone is an Ichiro slap type hitter.

I'm not sure anybody has ever been posted after putting up the numbers that Darvish did. I know Dice-K certainly did not.

The deadline to submit has come and gone so now we play the waiting game. The O's and Reds said they would not be bidding on Darvish.

Blue Jays are reportedly the favorites to be the highest bidder.

I honestly don't see how anyone can be the favorite to be the highest bidder. Until the posting team accepts, nobody besides MLB brass knows who won.

Except if the known teams that put in a bid all called each other or something like that.

Edit: I understand that the Blue Jays seemed to be the most interested team going in, but still.

How ironic would it be if the Yankees and Red Sox pass up on Darvish because of the logic that they don't want another Igawa or Dice-K only to then watch Darvish in a Blue Jay uniform own both teams for the next six years?

It's probably just insiders getting a feel of what teams bid what and feel the Jays bid the most.

In spite of what I said, Darvish going to Chicago or Toronto would just be boring. He won't be as marketable in those cities as he would be in LA with its Japantown nearby, where he would be Nomo-mania all over again.

You doubt Rogers and it's ability to sell this guy. Remember it's not just Toronto that is that market, it is all of Canada. Large Asian population? Vancouver comes to mind, and there is a large Asian population in T.O and other parts of B.C. They'll be able to do a lot with the guy as a means to keep growing the Jays as a "Canadian" team.
