Castro looked like he had ace potential two years ago but has had a couple bad years and has since been passed by many in the Padres farm.

Your Chicago White Sox GM, ladies and gentlemen.
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

Dumping Santos and dumping Quentin were two moves Josh Byrnes made as D-backs GM.
I wouldn't necessarily say they dumped Santos. They got a pretty damn good pitcher in return for him. Very strange move on the Padres part. They traded their ace and then trade for a power hitter who will be a free agent next year. Are they going for something in 2012? I also believe the White Sox could have gotten better talent for Quentin

i think thats the thing for the padres. they traded two afterthoughts... i guess?... on the hopes of either a monster contract year from quentin where they can get better value, or signing him to a fiscally reasonable extension if hes the same injury prone masher hes been. worst case scenario, they get a sandwich 1st rounder.
[on the other end of the spectrum though... going from coors east to petco is probably not a very nice move for quentins value in the first place. admittedly, i dont know if petco pulled the fences in or anything though... or if its even still called petco]
