    Pirates Pirates to sign Bedard

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Pirates have agreed to sign free agent left-hander Erik Bedard.
Journalist Marc Brassard hears that the deal is worth $4.5 million. Bedard had a solid bounceback year in 2011, posting a 3.62 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and striking out 125 over 129 1/3 frames while making 24 starts for the Mariners and Red Sox. His health is always an issue, but the southpaw has a chance to be a nice value signing for the Bucs.
Wow! What a nice, under the radar signing. The Pirates got Bedard for the same price as Bruce Chen and Bedard is the better pitcher. If he can pitch 160+ innings and pitch the way we're accustomed to see, he will easily outperform this deal.

Yeah but hes never gotten over his arm problems. It is a high risk/reward signing. But dont expect 160+.

I think 4.5 is too much for him because of his arm problems.

His arm wasn't the issue last season, it was his knee which is better news. Not good but better than his arm bothering him. When relievers are making $4.5 million for pitching 60 innings, I think getting a starter for the same amount is a good deal.

From all the reports it says knee and lat issues and that his arm wasn't the problem.
