Rays Rays, Damon Close to Deal?

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Rays are nearing a deal with free agent outfielder Johnny Damon.
Damon actually drew a good amount of interest from the Yankees over the past couple of weeks, but they're locked into Jorge Posada at DH and more playing time should be available to the 37-year-old in Tampa Bay. He's not the kind of guy that you want playing an active role in the outfield, but as a part-time designated hitter Damon should be able to contribute something positive to the 2011 Rays. He finished with a decent .271/.355/.401 batting line, eight home runs and 51 RBI over 539 at-bats last season for Detroit.
With Vlad and Manny out there, is Damon really the best fit at DH? I know he can help out in LF too if needed with Joyce and Jennings but I would much rather have Vlad or Manny as my DH. Manny might attract more people to games and Vlad would just hit better than all three of them. There is a rumor saying the Rays might go after both Damon and Manny so if true, I owuld feel a lot better but they could have just signed Vlad and called it a day. We'll see how things go.

Damon for 5 mill, Manny for 2 mill. If this was 2003, this would be amazing. Haha

So I take it Damon is going to play LF along with Jennings and Joyce and help DH with Manny. I'm just glad to see the Rays get some bats. They had horrible production from their DH last season.

I heard Jennings will head back to AAA.

Can we trade Soriano back to them for 28 MM, Damon, Manny, and a 1st round pick? That's essentially the balance of the last transactions.

I'm now officially worried. Sergio Meat Tray has no business in a starting rotation. For that I'd rather just bring back Chacon and Aaron Small.

    I'm only half joking.
