I just read this as well, and that he was "heart broken" when he was traded last season.

Hard to fault a guy who signed with the team he wanted to be with from the get go and took less money as Leo pointed out.

I don't think anyone saw this coming! I thought my season next year was going to be bad, now I am happy the Phillies aren't also in the AL East. What I don't understand is... this is what everyone thought they should have done in the first place, have Doc AND the General together, what... did the Phillies just wake up or rob a bank to finally finnace it???

Borrowed a loan from Tom Brady's hair I think.

I saw something about this as well. Kinda erks me in a way.
If the owner is willing to step up and spend this much money on a player. Than how come they couldn't do this when they needed a new stadium, and forced the tax payers to do so. In one way I can understand this argument, on the other hand I don't. Without the new stadium, the owner wouldn't have had the money to spend. For this I applaud the owner for using the money gained on the team, and not adding it to his pocket.

That's great that Cliff Lee turned down the most money offered to him, but I'm of the opinion that the players owe the owners the same loyalty as the owners owe them: none. Yes, I understand that it's a business and the owners have the right to make a profit, but when they don't re-invest some of it into the team while they continue to raise ticket prices and I read about the owner's wife sucking her chauffeur's dick while traveling half the world all on the team's dime, it's obvious to me these people are full of shit.

Are you suggesting Cliff Lee should take whoever offers the most out of some form of principle?

The Phillies still blew their opportunity at making a third straight World Series. They could have had Halladay-Lee-Hamels-Oswalt before Jayson Werth walked.

I doubt they would have gotten Oswalt if they still had Lee but we'll never know.

If they didn't get Oswalt, it wouldn't have been for lack of trade bait since they had J.A. Happ available. So their excuse would have been money or complacency.

Okay, I couldn't overlook this anymore.

New stadiums that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build don't pay for themselves. Even when the Giants paid the full construction cost for Pac Bell Park, the city of San Francisco provided the land for free and with property-tax breaks.
