Yankees [Trade] Lance Berkman to the Yankees

Twitter / Joel Sherman: Deal is completed, Berkman ...

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, we're reportedly giving up nothing of value and he'll just be our full time DH. On the other hand, this is really an unnecessary move. Do we need to add Berkman? Especially a guy who's been horrific this year both against lefties and on the road.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

This could be just a rental, as Berkman may just re-sign with the Astros this winter.

It gives Swisher and Granderson another fun dude to play with!

Apparently they are "non-prospect minor leaguers"...sounds like a straight salary dump.

A straight salary dump, only Houston is paying his salary, but at least they got nothing in return. Great deal, Houston! You suck.

Re: [Trade] Lance Berkman to the Yankees

Oswalt and Berkman arguably had their best seasons in 2006. Imagine if the Astros dealt both then the haul they could have gotten. Obviously Oswalt still has a lot of value, unlike Berkman at the moment, but age and contract diminishes that value.

As for Berkman, he has been atrocious on the road (.700 OPS) but he has hit 6 homers in July with a SLG% over .500 but he has yet to really have a good stretch of hitting for both power and average, but maybe with the power coming back, it will be soon.

Trade is completed with relief prospect Mark Melancon and a low-A ball player on the way. Melancon has a bit of potential, but could probably use a change of scenery.

Slight improvement over Irabu or El Duque. So Berkman said no to the White Sox. That's funny.
