Thumbs Up [Trade] Jorge Cantu to Texas

I'm all for trade icons again.

ESPNNEWS reported Cantu has been dealt to Texas, and he will move over to 1B again.

Florida gets Evan Reed and Omar Poveda. They'll be dealt again in t-minus.. 6 seasons.

With every single more dollar a Marlins player makes, Loria grows to dislike them that much more.

So there going to have a bunch of rookies and 1 year players when they move into their new stadium. Lovely. Someone tell me why they haven't been contracted yet?

Move them to an area that would care about baseball and this wouldn't happen every season.

it's almost insulting that this franchise has two World Series titles.

Their second championship was dumb luck. I have greater respect for what Wayne Huizenga did in having gone all-in and dishing out $89 million of his money to add premium free agents to a team that would have otherwise remained in the shadow of Ted Turner's Braves.

You don't win a championship in a 162 game schedule followed by a best-of-5, best-of-7, best-of-7 playoff format off luck.

That's not to say there isn't luck involved. There's luck involved in just about any championship run, but to suggest that that was the primary factor is a bit off.

Cantu has been trending on the down, big time, since April but you would think he would discover the power a bit more (statistically speaking) with a move to Texas.

    You're dumb luck, Mofo.

They won with mostly talent they grew or had acquired and grew in the minors. Beckett dominated the Empire on the biggest stage. That's not luck. That's just something your Dodgers haven't had since you were in diapers. SUCK it.

It was dumb luck that Dontrelle Willis was only their third or fourth choice for a pitching prospect from the Cubs in the deal that sent Matt Clement and Antonio Alfonseca to Chicago.

Not to mention if Steve Bartman hadn't interfered with a foul ball, it's unlikely the Marlins would have scored in that very inning (41.0% scoring expectation with a runner on second and 1 out vs. 22.9% with 2 outs) and even more unlikely they would've came back from a 3-0 deficit with 3 more outs to go.

Re: [Trade] Jorge Cantu to Texas

At any rate, I meant for my criticism to have more to do with how Jeffrey Loria's regime stumbled into a championship and less to do with the championship caliber players that were already in place.

The 1997 Championship isn't really at that much more commendable, either.

Huizenga took a huge gamble that happened to pay off.

Then after it paid off the firesale commenced.

Kudos to him for taking the risk, but it didn't guarantee that championship and he would have sold it off the next year either way.
