Almost complete: Preston Wilson to the Nationals

The Rockies have agreed to trade outfielder Preston Wilson to the Nationals for righthanded pitcher Zach Day and Class AAA outfielder J.J. Davis, but the teams are at a stalemate over how much the Nationals will pay on what remains of Wilson's $12.5 million salary, the Sporting News has learned.

Before the deal can be completed, the two clubs must agree on financial terms. Also, Wilson must OK the deal because the Nationals are one of five teams to which he can reject a trade. The commissioner's office also must approve any cash transaction between the teams of more than $1 million. The Cubs, thought to be the frontrunner for Wilson, could re-enter the picture if the Nationals and Rockies can't work out the particulars. The Rangers also have been talking with the Rockies about Wilson.

Or it's dead, according to Buster Olney on Baseball Tonight.

Guess Wilson doesn't like the Nats? Or Nats and Rocks couldn't agree on the financial terms? Did Olney say anything paticular as to why the deal was dead?

Olney said there were issues with the money (as to how much Col would pay) and the minor leaguer involved. Apparently one side said one guy and the other said another.

If they weren't desperate to dump Wilson's contract, the Rockies would be idiots to accept J.J. Davis as the minor leaguer.

Olney didn't specify on Baseball Tonight. Possibly the rockies were thinking of a different minor leaguer, while the Nationals were set in sending Davis.

Maybe he said what was up on espn.com, for the low low price of whatever, you can read Olney's material! Weee!

Yeah it looks like this deal has died for now. With the A's signing Kotsay, teams like the Yanks and Rangers will have to look at Wilson. I don't see Wilson helping any team that much. He is simply not worth it.
