    Mariners Felix signs extension?

Still unclear whether it is a 2 year deal to buy out his arb. years, or if it is a long term extension. 5 years/78M has been thrown around and if that is the deal then:

4 days ago, Matt at Lookout Landing did some projections for a hypothetical Felix extension:

A Hypothetical Felix Hernandez Extension - Lookout Landing

He hit the nail on the head predicting a 5 year/78 mil deal, but I would've taken the 6/94 deal in a second.

It says to me that Felix is content with the organization and decided to go ahead and get this over with instead of dancing around for more money/another year. The hiring of Jack, the acquistion/extension of Guti, trading for Cliff Lee, being tickled by Ken Griffey Jr., these were all huge factors in Felix deciding to sign the extension IMO.

Congrats M's fans. Great deal, and most importantly no more talk of the Yanks buying him for another 5 years.

Has this been the single most awe inspiring offseason in Mariners history? This is an unbelievable signing even if you look at the contract numbers.

King Felix is only 23 years old which bodes for a brighter future than those other top talent arms that have recently sigend. And when you look at the numbers; Seattle gets the steal.

Lackey; 31 years old, 5 years at $8.25M
Zambrano; 26 years old, 5 years at $91.5M
Felix; 23 years old, 5 years at $78M

Yes, the M's bought two arbitration seasons, but for a deal like this, it is simply an absolute bargain. well done Mariners once again!
