Reds Aroldis Chapman agrees to $30M deal with the Reds

Twitter / Jeff Passan: Cuban LHP Aroldis Chapman agrees to $30M deal with National League team, according to source. Left Ft. Lauderdale airport this a.m. to sign.

It must be the ****ing Natinals, if not Omar Minaya and his hard-on for Latin players.

If the Nationals are the team, they have definitely improved their pitching recently with Strasburg and this kid.
John Sickles (formerly of ESPN) has said he isn't sure how to rate this guy. He thinks that if he can improve his command and control a bit, the sky is the limit, but without that, he will be only a mid-rotation starter.

This forum will self destruct if the Reds are the team.

I wonder if this is legit though. That Twitter account just started...how do we know it's really that writer?

We don't. It would be a huge surprise if it is the Reds, though. They are not known for their aggressiveness in the free agent market.

I am trying to remain calm and logical, as the hopes of a Reds fan is often toyed with. But in the long long longshot of a chance that the Reds dud sign him...

Looking around, the rumor is, it is the Reds. Any confirmation though?

It's all over twitter and wikipedia!

MLB.com doesn't confirm it, but they say they are the likely winners.

Volquez, Harang, Arroyo, Cueto, Bailey, Chapman, Wood, Leake, Maloney. I love the depth!

With Jock stating that the money was already spent, what happens to this team. Do Harang, Arroyo, or CoCo get traded? Free up money to afford Chappie.

Nothing from Jocketty yet I don't think. But I am still looking for the official statement.

Everyone is saying it is a $30MM deal for 5 years. Some won't like the money, but I love it! Definitely worth the risk. It's unbelievable to see this team take on such a huge contract after saying they were tapped out for the offseason.

Things will probably trickle down from this, but I still love the potential of this young future rotation.

Jon Fay is trying to say that the deal "could be as much as 10 years."
