Blue Jays Toronto flips Taylor to Oakland for Wallace

Way to take a sweet OF prospect and exchange him for a 1B prospect that gets less shiny by the day.

    why trade for Wallace?

when you could have Taylor in RF ad Snider in LF, or even Snider at 1b?

edit: i say this expecting Wallace switching to 1B

I guess the A's don't have any faith in Wallace sticking at 3B. They must figure they don't need more 1B/DHs with Barton, Doolittle, and Carter. Good move by Beane if true.

That's the problem. Who actually thinks Wallace can stick at third? If he can't, why the hell trade an OF prospect for him?

You see, that's your stance every time Beane makes a trade connected to the Matt Holliday trade, but all he actually netted is Michael Taylor for Carlos Gonzalez and Huston Street.

Taylor and Holliday for half a season I suppose. Street was as good as gone regardless as the A's weren't going to extend him and it allowed someone else to step up (Bailey). Beane has never been one to overpay for a closer. Gonzalez didn't do anything in his time with the A's. I was happy with Wallace, but if he's going to be a 1B, then we don't really need him with Barton (still only 24), Carter, and Doolittle. I guess the result ends up being a wash, but it really depends on how well Taylor performs.

I keep hearing how easy it is to replace a first basemen, yet I see so many teams not having a solid hitting first basemen. Half the teams don't have their first base position settled.

Lyle Overbay is on his last year, and he might be traded before the season anyways. The Jays believe they found a guy who can stick there long term, not sure how anybody could argue that.
