Red Sox Nick Johnson To Boston?

Peter Gammons told ESPN's Mike & Mike In The Morning on Thursday that the Nationals have discussed swapping Nick Johnson for Boston's Manny Delcarmen.
The Red Sox will probably give David Ortiz a little more time to get his swing figured out before pulling the trigger. If he can't get it turned around, Johnson would make a nice fit. He's batting .338/.435/.473 this season with four home runs and 25 RBI in 148 at-bats. Delcarmen has been lights out, with a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings, but the Red Sox have enough pitching depth in their system to cope with the loss.
I like this trade for both sides if it ever happened. Red Sox would have a DH/1B to split time with Ortiz and give Youkilis the occasion day off. We all know Ortiz is beyond struggling. Delcarmen would give the Nats the much needed reliever they need and could be their possible closer for a couple of years.

If the native Bostonian Delcarmen gets traded, it just adds to the hypocrisy of Boston teams' so called Celtic Pride despite a history of building winners on the backs of players imported from other states. If all pro athletes were to play for only their home town/regional teams, I'd bet Boston/New England would rank dead last in talent in every sport except hockey.

    That's an intriguing idea.

If I finish my finals early enough this weekend I think I'll compile a list of what I feel would be the best rosters for each team based on the player's home town/region.

Although, I don't know what I'd do with foreign players. Either keep them on their real team or not include them entirely, I suppose.

I hate Nick Johnson... don't touch the bullpen... use minor league guys, that depth is holding our team together, and if Ortiz even gets to .250-22-79, its not worth giving up Delcarmen for the slight upgrade to Johnson
