Rangers Call Off Sheets Deal

MLB.com reports that the Rangers called off a two-year contract agreement with Ben Sheets when they determined that he has a torn flexor tendon in his elbow that may require surgery.
Yet another free agent who may end up kicking himself for not accepting an arbitration offer from his original team. Sheets would have gotten at least $10 million for this season from the Brewers had he agreed to arbitration, but instead may be facing surgery with little chance of a multi-year deal.

This reports has to scare the few GMs that were interested away. Sheets might have to settle for a one year deal with the Pirates at this point. I still think the Rangers have nothing to lose by signing Sheets but I can see they don;t want to waste their time and money.

Sheets is considering surgery that would make him miss most if not all of the 2009 season. That's too bad, he would have eventually gotten a decent deal and really helped out some team.

When the Rangers say no, Sheets had no chance of getting any type of deal.
