    Braves Furcal Returning to Braves

FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - Source: Furcal to sign with Braves

The Braves are on the verge of a major offseason upset.

    Rafael Furcal is coming home.

In a stunning turnaround, the free-agent shortstop has chosen the Braves over the A's, according to a major-league source.

A contract agreement is expected to be announced Tuesday, conditional on Furcal passing a physical.

Furcal would play shortstop or second base for the Braves, depending upon which other moves the team makes.
Stunning turnaround? How so? He didn't want to sign with the A's. Maybe the Braves will trade Escobar to the A's now

I still believe Peavy will be dealt before spring training regardless.

    Re: Furcal Returning to Braves

Hollywood, what is the structure of Peavy's contract ($$$ per year for each year)? I only ask because everything I've read made it sound like the only reason the Braves were able to go after Furcal is because they lost out on Burnett. I'd guess that they won't have enough money left over now to take Peavy's contract if that's the case.

Isn't the buyout for 2013? I was under the impression that the team has a $22 million option for 2013 or $4 million buyout. I believe that 2011 is for $16 million and 2012 is for $17 million.

    You're right.

I missed 2016 in the article that I read.

You would be correct if it was actually Escobar who the Braves refused to trade.

I'm glad Furcal is coming back but I like both Escobar & Johnson.

    Re: Furcal Returning to Braves

The Padres says it is "likely" that Peavy is in a Padre uniform come Opening Day. A lot of offseason left to go yet. I don't don't get the move and I don't like it for the Braves. Well first let me back up and say this deal is not done yet. The Dodgers say they are still in the mix. If the Braves do get him, what do they do with Escobar? Move him to second and trade Johnson or trade Escobar? Package Escobar to the Royals for Grienke? To the A's for a few of their arms? To the Dodgers for one of their OFers? Too many questions have to be answered for me to make a call. Sounds like an unnecessary signing if they do indeed sign him.
