Trade Edwin Jackson traded to the Tigers?

Big Edwin heading to Detroit for Matt Joyce? Let the realmofotalk jokes commence.

FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - Wednesday MLB winter meetings blog

9:32 p.m. — Source: Tigers to acquire Edwin Jackson

The Detroit Tigers are set to acquire right-hander Edwin Jackson from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Matt Joyce, according to a major-league source.

Tampa Bay, with David Price on the way, had a surplus of starting pitching. Jackson, 25, was 14-11 this year with a 4.25 ERA.

In exchange the Rays get a 24-year-old, left-handed-hitting corner outfielder who hit 12 homers in 242 at-bats. -- Ed Price

Good to know that Edwin Jackson's resale value has since quadrupled so the Rays can trade him for some outfielder whom I've never heard of.

Good move for both teams. Jackson gives the Tigers a legitimate starter to go along with the guys that had down years last season. They had a surplus of outfielders and gave a good one to the Rays.

Joe Maddon isn't one to make a young player like Edwin Jackson worry about his mistakes on the field. Jim Leyland on the other hand...

    Good trade for the Rays.

Edwin Jackson is wildly inconsistent. Matt Joyce is a decent stick. The Tigers are run by retards. First Willis and now Jackson?

Great move by the Rays and a terrible one by the Tigers. Edwin Jackson has one "good" year and now he is reliable? Just an awful move on their part.

I wouldn't say the Rays win this deal hands down. Matt Joyce may be a legit power hitter, but you can never have enough pitching depth, especially with an injury prone Kazmir, and who knows how Sonnanstine will fare next year.

The Rays have plenty of pitching depth better than Jackson and David Price is the one filling Jackson's spot. You might not be quick to call it but I am.

I'm not calling it a win for the Rays until Jackson completely melts down again. My rule of thumb is that you need at least 7 starting pitchers to get through the season because at least one spot will be a revolving door, so it's always nice to have a spot starter with a 4.42 ERA just in case.

Like I said, the Rays have the depth.
