    Re: Holliday to the A's

Carlos Gonzalez was told by the A's that he is being traded to the Rockies for Matt Holliday.
Greg Smith has also confirmed his inclusion of the deal. Huston Street's presence isn't official yet, but it looks like he'll also be involved. CBSSports.com is reporting that the Rockies are acquiring Street with the intention of moving him to a third team. It makes one wonder if they're having significant financial troubles.
A third team? Interesting because the Rockies need Street.

    Re: Holliday to the A's

the A's have said they don't plan on flipping him at the deadline...obviously, if they're completely out of it that could change, but I think Beane plans on contending with this move. More sources say it's CarGon, Street, and Smith. Not too bad considering. They must not be as high on CarGon as they were before they acquired him.

Even if Holliday walks, it doesn't hurt the rebuild with those picks and our farm system. If it were 3 of our specs, then I'd be upset. But I like this move if we sign him and I like it if we don't. I'm interested to see what other moves Beane makes. Of course, time will tell how this ends up being remembered.

    Re: Holliday to the A's

I do think it hurts the rebuild if they don't trade him at the deadline. Losing three players who can help then having to wait years for two draft picks to possibly emerge doesn't help the rebuild, it just prolongs it. The A's have a good farm system no matter what but losing three players definitely doesn't help the process, no matter how replaceable they are. Smith is still young and left handed. I think with a couple more moves the A's can contend but if there is any doubt come July, the A's have to trade Holliday instead of waiting years for a 50/50 chance on draft picks. I would be shocked if he isn't moved in July. I still would like to see the A's shell out the money and have an actual franchise player. As for Carlos Gonzalez, he's only 22 with plenty of room to grow just like Barton. I see where you are coming from Prov so don;t think I don;t. Like you said, we just disagree.

that's cool bro. Really, we're only adding about $10 mil because I'm pretty sure Street was or is due to make at least 3 mil. He could be a FA after 2010 as well I believe. The A's don't want to pay a middle reliever that kind of money. We'll just have to see what else happens this off-season and how it all ends up playing out.

The Cardinals should be the third team. The Cardinals need Street, blah blah blah.

Cards need someone and Duncan would love a guy like Street to work with.

    Gonzalez, Street, and Smith.

Odds that Street gets hammered? Poor him.

Odds are in Street's favor moving to the weak NL West.
