    Player Kent To Retire?

According to the Los Angeles Times, Jeff Kent is "expected to retire."
Kent hit .280/.327/.418 to post an OPS below 800 for the first time since 1997 and lost his starting job by season's end, so the 40-year-old may not be interested in finishing his Hall of Fame-caliber career as a role player. However, he's just one year removed from hitting .302/.375/.500 and would likely have no trouble finding a decent-paying job.
I could see a possible return the Cleveland on a one year deal. They are pretty thin at second base. The guy can still hit. He can be a 2B/DH for teams like Seattle and Toronto (he's played for the too) and some NL teams will interested too. He can find a job pretty easily. If he does retire, we'll see him in Cooperstown.

Whichever team is interested in him will also need to sign Pablo Ozuna to run for him. Come on, that guy would rather spend his time popping wheelies than going to the clubhouse every day.

I'm sure he likes to get overpaid as well.

Which is why Cleveland won't touch him.

Kent as a DH could have some value for at least a season, maybe even two.

Not only can he DH and play second, he also has experience at first. A team could really use his bat and versatility.

JP would surely overpay given the chance.
But there is plenty of arms and bats on the team already.

    Re: Kent To Retire?

He has too much pride to play for a bad team, and at his age he's likely to want to stay close to his homes in the "greater" Los Angeles area and Texas. The Rangers have to realize that their plan of stockpiling on hitters without getting pitching is taking them nowhere, and the Angels aren't likely to give him anything more than a paltry offer.

I wouldn't put it past Sabean to sign Kent.

Now that is a team that could really use Kent.
