    Rumor Red Sox Like Brocail

ESPN.com's Peter Gammons reports that the Red Sox are interested in RHP Doug Brocail.
Gammons confirms that the Red Sox aren't discussing Miguel Tejada with the Astros. The 41-year-old reliever has a 3.91 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings for Houston.
Red Sox wouldn't have to give anything up much to get Brocail from the last place Astros so this makes a lot of sense. He would be a very serviceable reliever for any contending team.

Brocail was one of those relievers Kevin Towers brought in that I kept waiting for him to suck but he never really did.

He would be a decent pick up since he might come practically free.

Wolf is pretty much trying out for next year. Brocail is up in age and doesn't find himself in future plans. If the Stros were smart, neither would Wolf but I understand.

The Astros are competing for not being in last place in a 6 team division.

Do you really think the Wolf deal was an attempt to get into playoff contention?

How else can you explain it? Thats what the GM said when he did the deal, i don't know why he'd deal for Wolf, he's an FA at the end of the season i believe

I think its more along the lines of trying him out for next year. Astros are weak in starting pitching and Wolf was available and on the cheap.

I don't know why they made the deal, either (LTR's reasoning makes some sense, though), I just know it's not to get them into the playoffs.

Wolf isn't, exactly, the best pitcher in the world...
