[Rumor] Maddux, Gagne on the move

Sportscenter just made a story of the rumor on the possibility of Maddux and Gagne being traded by the deadline. The Gagne rumor is insane. There's just no way Depodesta should be thinking about trading the team's closer in a divisional race. Even Beane wouldn't trade his closer in a playoff run. Even if LA falls out of race by the trade deadline, they'd be insane to trade Gagne just to avoid dealing with free agency. Depodesta should've learned by now that screwing with the bullpen doesn't pay off, as the experiment of Darren Dreifort in the setup role was a disaster after the trade of Mota.

if the cubs are even remotely in the race at the deadline, maddux aint goin anywhere. the cubs arent in a position where they need to pare payroll, plus his whole premise is wrong. The cubs can go for the wildcard. granted, it will be tough, but philips makes it sound like the cubs arent going to have any shot whatsoever.

If the Cubs want to make a major move and trade Maddux, don't you guys think he would want to go back to the Braves? Leo Mazzone wouldn't mind having him again.

These actually make sense to me. Gagne has not been himself this year as he has struggled. After this year he has one year left on his contract. Gagne makes 8 mil /yr and they have a oung guy named Brazoban who makes $315,000/yr. They won games with Brazoban so financially it makes a lot of sense. Playoffs teams would be giving an arm and a leg for Gagne so the Dodgers could get a great deal out of it.

Maddux makes 9 mil and the Cubs have a slim chance to win the WC IMO. Injuries on top of injuries keep this team down. Maddux likes the west coast so the Pads could make a real push for him if it came to crunch time. Pads have some good young guys they could give in return for Maddux.

I agree with you. He just spews lot of garbage on Baseball Tonight, Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio, and SportsCenter. He says lot of stupid things like Harold Reynolds. You can tell he has zero substance when you hear him talk.

Just pointing out the A's strategy of "staying ahead of the curve" with closers.

Would it surprise you? I mean, he did give Adrian Beltre's money to JD Drew!
