    Kuroda a Dodger

    Link

Now the price on Bedard is significantly less, right? The Dodgers had a great package ready to offer if they didn't get Kuroda. Now they have their pitcher, and they are likely out of the race for Bedard.

    M's vs Reds now.

As for the signing, what do you guys think of Kuroda? Will he boost this Doder rotation even more? He is no Haren, but two teams in the NL West have made their teams better in two days. That division is stacked with arms.

    per Rosenthal-

Japanese free-agent right-hander Hiroki Kuroda is on the verge of signing a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to major-league sources.

Kuroda, 32, will bolster a rotation that already includes righties Derek Lowe, Brad Penny and Chad Billingsley, with Jason Schmidt recovering from shoulder surgery and Esteban Loaiza another candidate.

Financial terms of the deal are not yet known. The contract will not be final until Kuroda passes a physical.

The move, which helps the Dodgers counter the Diamondbacks' acquisition Friday of right-hander Dan Haren, is a significant blow to the Mariners, who were among the teams bidding heavily for Kuroda.

The Mariners, trying to add two starting pitchers, have spoken extensively with the Orioles about a trade for left-hander Erik Bedard. But Kuroda was a primary target for Seattle.

The Diamondbacks and Royals also had expressed strong interest in Kuroda, who was 103-89 with a 3.69 ERA in 11 seasons with the Hiroshima Carp, including 12-8 with a 3.56 ERA last season.

Several teams, including the Dodgers, were willing to give Kuroda a four-year deal. Kuroda, however, opted for three years, leaving open the possibility that he could finish his career in Japan.

Blanton to the Mets then I suppose...I'm hoping for Gomez and Pelfrey...something like that.

I don't care who Kuroda is, what he does, or anything about him. All it means to me is no Erik Bedard for us!

Dodgers are now stacked 1-5 in the rotation. The Dodgers will have a much better offense than last year and look like the favorites in the West as of now.

Thats exactly what I was thinking but this looks like a good signing for the Dodgers. And like reefer said they look to be the front runners for the NL West now.

You forget that they still have Esteban "P.O.S." Loaiza as the 5th starter. He accounts for 30 automatic losses during the season.

Is that supposed to be a pot shot?

Loaiza, Schmidt (if he ever returns), and possibly Stults are expected to compete for the last starting spot. Who knows, maybe Chan Ho Park will bicycle kick Loaiza's ass in spring training so that will be the last thing we'll hear about Loaiza.

No pot shot, just an honest question

The pot shot might have come had the answer been "yes" though

The name Hiroki sounds like one of Hello Kitty's cartoon character friends.
