    Giants Sign Rowand:(

Giants agreed to terms with outfielder Aaron Rowand, who had been with the Phillies, on a five-year contract.
The Giants were lucky last year when they missed out on Gary Matthews Jr. and Juan Pierre despite competitive offers. Still, no one really expected Brian Sabean to learn his lesson. Rowand gets a five-year deal at what's surely more than $10 million per season (probably at least $12 million) despite having just two particularly good seasons under his belt. He's a fine player even when he's posting 750 OPSs, but he's probably not going to age well because of the way he throws his body around and he's not the big-time middle-of-the-order threat the Giants needed. The team was already paying Randy Winn and Dave Roberts as if they were center fielders.
********* all to hell!! I like Rowand but only for a three year deal!! This is a terrible deal for the Giants. Giants now have a good #5 hitter but no 3-4 hitters. Rowand will likely be moved to LF in a couple of years. Too many years and I'm afraid of the $$ amount.

Rowand was the best option for the Giants... I don't think this is that bad though, I mean the Giants are an awful squad and anything would make them better. At least its good to see the Giants finally do something.

I agree he was the best option but that doesn't mean give him five years!! I would have rather the Giants overpay for three years than give him this deal.

He might not have signed if it was only a three-year deal. The Giants have to overbid in order to attract free agents, no? It's better than having Ray Durham hitting cleanup.

If it were a 3 yr/$45 mil offer, he would have been a fool not to sign it.

I wanted the Twins to Sign Rowand. I guess the deal between the Twins and Boston for Ellsbury must be close to done. 12 mllion a year is less that we paid Hunter last season. Anyways good move for the Giants.

He would have been a fool to leave 15 million on the table, when there's no guarantee he'd get that in 3 years.
