The Jays are kicking the tires on Erik Bedard, and they could include A.J. Burnett in a package for the Orioles' ace. Bedard is Canadian, and Burnett, who could opt out of his contract next winter, has family ties to the Baltimore area -- something that is important to O's owner Peter Angelos.
The Blue Jays and Giants have floated the idea of an Alex Rios trade for Tim Lincecum or Matt Cain. Another name that's come up in discussions is third baseman Troy Glaus. But there are some health issues surrounding Glaus, who had surgery in September to repair a nerve in his left foot. If the Jays move Glaus, they would have to consider adding offense.
    3:34 p.m., from Buster Olney
    • The Blue Jays continue to talk with the Orioles about left-hander Erik Bedard. Toronto probably has the young pitching to anchor a deal.

Come on Jyas. I thought J.P was there looking for little things, now make the big move like I know you want too.

They need to do something this off season or it may be a very long season in Shea.
That's a lot to give up for Bedard.

I don't think it will be enough and many teams will offer more. At least it isn't as much as many other teams are offering for the likes of Haren or Santana. Now Santana is better than Bedard and Haren may be slightly better as well, but this isn't even close.

    Re: Rumors from Winter Meetings

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Indians have restarted trade talks for Jason Bay following the Tigers' deal for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis.
The newspaper suggests that the Indians and Pirates "developed a framework for a five-player trade" that would send Bay and Ronny Paulino to Cleveland for Franklin Gutierrez, Kelly Shoppach and either Cliff Lee or an unnamed pitching prospect. Bay's value is down following a rough year, but it seems likely that new Pirates general manager Neal Huntington could get a stronger package for him, which is why the two sides are reportedly "expected to continue talking" Wednesday.
You knew this was coming after the Cabrera/Willis trade. NL could be losing yet another star.

    How is Abaladsfdsnfsdhflknf,jdlkf McKain?
Sorry it took me a little while to reply to this, I didn't see it.

Pros: He's got good stuff, lots of talent, nice ceiling. Was going to be a key piece in our pen last year but he only got like 14 innings because of how good the rest of our pen was. Put up good numbers all through the minors, but he is 25 and isn't as young as you'd like to see a relief prospect with his build to be. Fastball tops out at 96, usually sits in the low 90s, though.

Cons: Has dealt with various injuries throughout his career, he is fat and has had some issues with his weight and never seems to try to get it down.

Just up to Girardi to use him right and not do the same dumb shit Torre tends to do with the bullpen (abusing 2-3 guys, never even touching the rest), and he should turn out fine.

His peak is a setup man, more ikely he'll be a solid 7th inning guy for his career.

    Dead talks:

    10:23 a.m., from Buster Olney
    • Trade talks between the Indians and Pirates involving outfielder Jason Bay, left-handed starter Cliff Lee and others are dead.
    12:15 p.m., from Peter Gammons
    • Don't expect to see a Twins-Red Sox or Twins-Yankees whopper. The sense is now that Minnesota will hold onto Johan Santana.

    Eckstein to the Twinkies?

    11:22 a.m, from Jerry Crasnick
    • With the Twins in search of middle-infield help, one potential target is free agent David Eckstein. "I've always had a lot of respect for him," said Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire. "He catches the ball. He knows how to play. He's a proven winner."
So maybe they want to contend this year?

Twins Re: Rumors from Winter Meetings

Eckstein has proven himself to be a solid defender with great table setting abilities at the plate. Imagine him setting up Mauer, Morneau, Young, and Cuddyer. If he gets signed, contention is a serious possibility next year for the Twins.

The dude barely swings at a pitch and misses. He is the perfect 2 hole hitter in that he can get you a hit and run pretty much on command.

if the Twins won't pay Santana what he wants, but then will go out and pay Eckstein (who is asking for like 9 million a year over 4 years, last I heard), they are so retarded it hurts.

Why not just take the offer Redsox proposed.. they'll just end up giving him up to FA and get nothing back while they could've.
