what I would give up is a tough question since there is no mention of what Pittsburgh wants or needs

I would be prepared to trade almost anything as long as it didn't include Rios, McGowan, or Halladay.

Honestly, I wouldn't really care to make a move for Bay then man. You guys have plenty of offense in your OF already. I know you have to try and contend within that crazy division, but Bay likely won't make you that much better. Yes, you need more firepower, just not in the OF. My opinion of course.

while that is true, Bay would make a great pick up as a clean up hitter and a great market tool

    Elijah Dukes to the Nats

4:25, from Keith Law • The Rays have traded Elijah Dukes to the Nationals for a player to be named.
For a PTBNL? Wow! I would hope it is a big time player to be named later. Dukes is a serious outfielder.

It looks like the player the Rays will get back won't be on the Nats 40 man roster

Which means the D-Rays just made back-to-back LOL trades. As ****ed up as dukes is, the dude still has value.

More on the Jason Bay talks:

The Pirates and Indians are talking about a potential Jason Bay trade. Pittsburgh would get catcher Kelly Shoppach and left-hander Cliff Lee for the two-time All-Star.

Doh! I haven't payed attention to the AL in a little while I guess. I forgot about him somehow. So no need for a guy like Bay, right?

Rios is looking like the no. 3 hitter, while Thomas, Glaus and Wells have a WWE Battle Royale to see who stays healthy and become the 4th to 6th hitters.

I would feel so much better having Bay on the team.

Dukes has value Dukes was a waste of space on that roster and the Rays are smart to just get rid of him. He was trouble and so was Young. Dukes had a good couple of weeks and that's it. Dukes will be a 4th OFer for the Nats. The Rays are showing they aren't going to put up with immaturity and criminals. Rays are doing well this offseason.

    Re: Rumors from Winter Meetings

The Dallas Morning News reports that the Cardinals and Rangers may be discussing a swap of Scott Rolen and Chris Duncan for Hank Blalock.
Including Duncan could be a way for the Cardinals to avoid having to pay much of Rolen's $12 million-per-year salary. It'd be an interesting gamble for the Rangers. They'd get older at third base and they'd have to hope Rolen's shoulder heals up well, but it's possible that Rolen would prove to be an upgrade from Blalock and Duncan would fit nicely at first base.
That is too much for Hank freaking Blalock who is coming off an injury riddled season as is Rolen. Cards can get a better deal for Duncan alone I think. Cards needs to address pitching since Carpenter will miss the 08 season according to Gammons.

ESPN's Steve Phillips believes the Pirates are looking at Cliff Lee and Kelly Shoppach from the Indians as a potential return for Jason Bay.
That'd be quite a Christmas present from Pirates GM Neal Huntington to his old boss in Cleveland. Even with a new regime in place, the Pirates still appear to feel like they can never have enough left-handed starting pitchers. Lee would join Tom Gorzelanny, Paul Maholm and Zach Duke in the Pittsburgh rotation, seemingly opening up the door for either Ian Snell or Matt Morris to get traded.
Lee would seem expensive since they just got Morris. Shoppach would be great for the Pirates.

Mark Shapiro the Indians GM will be on ESPN 2 next to talk with Ravech and the guys. Wonder what he has to say about this.
