    Holliday Deal?

According to the Denver Post, the Rockies are prepared to offer Matt Holliday a four-year contract extension worth about $60 million.

With Holliday under the Rockies' control through 2009, the deal would buy out two seasons of free agency. Given that he'll likely earn $25 million in arbitration over the next two years, $60 million sounds like a fair price.
This should be the top priority for the Rockies right now. If they lock him up to this deal, then they can try and trade Atkins which they hae talked about. I hope he takes the deal for the Rockies sake.

Atkins is not leaving Colorado. I live here, in yesterdays paper it was stated that Atkins will not be traded. They want to keep him at 3rd base for several years.

Good to hear. Holliday, Helton, Atkins and Hawpe make a great 3-6 in the lineup.

    Alright! Get it done, ownership!

Now lets get Kaz Matsui, Torreabla, and Affeldt back in the mix.

Actually, you want none of those three back. Atkins, meh.

Um, I don't? OK, I guess you know my brain better than I do.

I want Kaz and Yorvit back until the one of the younger guys (Stewart and Ianetta) are ready to take their place. Kaz did just fine for us and really played 2B well. Atkins should be back as well (judging by the Rockies comments at the GM meetings).

Atkins is cheap enough that the Rockies will continue with him at third, but Matsui and Torrealba are nowhere near good offensively. Ian Stewart and Chris Iannetta can outproduce them right now, and I figure that O'Dowd knows this. The Rockies can improve at 2 positions at a minimal cost. Not many World Series teams can say that.

According to the Denver Post, the Cubs are expected to offer Kazuo Matsui a three-year contract.

The newspaper reports that the Rockies will likely let him leave if that's the case, which would be the right move. For all the talk of Matsui's dramatic improvement since leaving the Mets, he batted just .249 with a measly 638 OPS away from Coors Field in 2007.

Quick follow up on the Matsui thing.

Locking up Holiday though, would be huge.

Its not all about offense, though. Kaz played a great 2B for us. I mean, sure we have options (Barmes, Stewart) if he goes but I'd like him to stay. That said, I wouldn't throw the bank at him obviously.

It's not all about offense. But it's mostly about offense.
