Renteria traded to Detroit for Hernandez and Jurrjens

This doesn't make any sense on Detroits part because one you already had a productive SS in Guillen, two Renteria has proven to be a NL guy, he's not a AL, look what he did in Boston in 05.

Detroit has said repeatedly Guillen would be at 1B next year.

Ok, I didn't hear that one. That clears up their 1B hole too. Ok not looking so bad for them then.

But still, he's a great defensive player, unless he lost a notch or something last year? Because I didn't see that many Braves games. And who are the Braves going to put at SS? Do the Braves have a prospect ready to come up or something?

Braves have Yunel Escobar to plug at SS, he's an excellent young player.

I would have liked more for Renteria. I feel we got jipped.

Braves have a nasty prospect in Escobar.

    per ESPN.com:

CHICAGO -- Detroit's Carlos Guillen will shift from shortstop to first base next season.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland spoke with Guillen about the change on Wednesday.
"It's OK," Guillen said before Friday night's game against the White Sox. "I don't have any problems. I want to help this team get better. We were in the World Series last year, and I want to bring us back."
Leyland said the team was making the move with Guillen's health in mind.
"Shortstop is a very stressful place anyway, and for a guy that's knees are roughed up pretty good, it's even more stressful," Leyland said.
Guillen has been on the disabled list five times since 1999 and has played more than 140 games only once in his career. He agreed in March to a $48 million, four-year contract extension through 2011.
"I think the biggest thing, as far as I'm concerned, is that I'll have him on the field all the time," Leyland said. "I think it will be a lot less stressful for him. You want to take care of your investments, and I think it's a perfect spot."
It is confirmed, Guillen to 1B

Renteria was playing in Boston where he was under a microscope it appears. I would have like to have seen Edgar in a Giants uniform but this does make sense. Guillen has been mentioned for a while now as a candidate to switch to first and Renteria has been rumored to go to the Tigers too. No big shock here. Braves get off the hook with his salary and gets a starter and a future OFer. They can go out and sign more pitching with the freed up money.

Nice move by Detroit, as reefer mentioned he was under a microscope in Boston and wasn't given much of a chance to see if he could adjust to AL pitching over a few seasons. I think he will do well in Detroit.
"They asked me if I wanted the ball in Game 6, and I said yes. I'll always say yes. That's what I did with Jack McKeon. I told him, 'Let me see how I feel tomorrow.' I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." -Josh Beckett

Which makes this trade even dumber - as recent as 05, Renteria was just as bad if not worse than Guillen defensively.

But lets all remember that Edgar played for Leyland's Marlins in '95 on the World Series Team.

I think that will also help him relax and play well for the Tigers next year.
