Yankees La Russa A Possibility For Yankee Job?

Depending on whom you talked to, George Steinbrenner commented on the Joe Torre situation without a successor in mind, or Steinbrenner wants to insert Don Mattingly and pair him with a veteran bench coach.

Others in the organization are pushing former Yankees player, coach, Marlins manager and current YES announcer Joe Girardi. The wild card is Tony La Russa, who is rumored to be on the move out of St. Louis. La Russa certainly has the credentials and he is from Steinbrenner's beloved Tampa.

“You know it's New York, it's part of what you go through on a daily basis," said Mattingly, a former Yankee great and Torre's bench coach.

I'd be pretty surprised if anyone but Mattingly got the position, assuming this isn't the same October-November dance with Torre, it's George's boy after all. Now if Sweet Lou was on the market this year... it might be a different story.

LaRussa would be crucified in NY. I see him going somewhere low key like a Pitt or Seattle.

The Yankees manager next year will be either a) Joe Torre or b) Don Mattingly. Girardi has a very small chance. Nobody else.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

The Yankees and LaRussa do NOT seem like a good match. I would be absolutely surprised if he was the next Yankee manager.

I would never even discuss brining the overrated LaRussa to NY, I want Girardi.

I heard that the Reds might pursue LaRussa if he becomes available.

Although, by "heard" I mean my dad told me that he read it on some rumors site, so it might be nothing.

Colin Cowherd loves the idea of bringing in LaRussa to NY so you know its a bad idea.

Re: La Russa A Possibility For Yankee Job?

LaRussa does a good job of managing teams on the field, but does not do much for the clubhouse atmosphere.
Mattingly does not have enough experience running the show to get a high profile job like this one, even with someone like Don Zimmer sitting with him on the bench.
The Yankees' job requires someone that has a resume, it is not an entry-level job.

Hey Leo, I heard the same rumor not too long ago.

I still think that Mattingly is a better choice than La Russa, because he played and now has coached in the Yankee system and know what it takes to be a part of the Yankees.

I think Giardi wants to manage in Milwaukee after Yost is gone. hahaha.. I know, wishful thinking.

If Tony LaRussa manages the Yankees, I can't follow the team. Let Mr. Owl stay in St. Louis, PLEASE.

    La Russa is shit.

I'd love to see him go to the Yanks just to see the game where he sacrifices the DH and bats the pitcher just so he can bat him 8th.
