ESPNews: Proctor traded to LA

ESPNews reports that the Yankees have traded RHP Scott Proctor to the Dodgers for infielder Wilson Betemit.

A Proctor-for-Betemit swap has been talked about dating back to last season, when Betemit was still a Brave, but the Yankees were already rumored to be looking for bullpen help, which makes the timing odd. Proctor's arrival in Los Angeles could signal the end of the Dodgers' interest in Octavio Dotel. Betemit is deserving of more playing time than he received from the Dodgers, but doesn't figure to find regular at-bats behind Alex Rodriguez.

Not sure why the Yankees would do this, especially with the fact that they won't give up top prospects for Gagne. Proctor has to be the one loving this move, as he doesn't have to pitch in 120 games anymore.

ESPNews is the only station to report this as of now, and shall be treated as a rumor until someone else picks it up/it is made offical.

Betemit is a great addition to the team. He can fulfill the super utility role for the remainder of this season and then, unless we resign A-Rod, plug into 3B for next season. He's 27 and earns a minimal salary.

Mama Proctor was just destroyed by Torre's overuse and is pretty much useless at this point.

This is probably the 100th time I've heard that Proctor would be traded for Betemit...I like Proctor but he's far too inconsistent. I don't think Betemit will be a huge upgrade to the team though, although from what I've heard he can play multiple positions.

Proctor sucks dick, he comes into games and gives up runs every time without fail.

He's a risk now, although I still like him if we don't have Torre back next year, which means a different style in handling pitchers.

Betemit is meh, we don't really need a backup IF.

Just saw that trade. Do NOT understand why the Yankees are getting rid of pitching, or at least for another infeilder. Betemit could possibly play the role of utility player.

I've always liked Betemit's bat, he's just not a fit in New York. It just seems like he needs regular at bats to stay sharp, and that's not going to happen.

And maybe Proctor would be a little bit more consistant if Torres didn't use him every freaking night, just a thought.

Betemit is hitting just .231 but somehow has an .883 OPS, which is pretty good.

We already have a backlog at DH...another brilliant move meant to "give infielders more days off"

Andy Phillips and Shelly Duncan are not championship caliber players, Betemit is a championship caliber player. Good teams have players like Betemit getting at bats for them, good teams do not waste 3-400 at bats on guys like Phillips. That's how Betemit fits on this team.

Betemit in July(right after Nomar moved to 3B): .387(12-31), .500, .677

Bad months in between, but damn are those some sexy part-time stats.
