I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.
Ah, give me something clever to say here.
Why is Bradley on that list?
He's only hit >1.000 OPS since coming to the Padres

Throw something against the wall and hope it sticks in PetCo... I guess that's the motto.

I'm not calling them all mediocre, I'm just listing the hitters they've got...Barrett is above average too even if he has struggled this year.

You missed Hillenbrand.
Shouldn't be that bad, as long as they didn't give up anything.

Per Rotoworld
The Padres have acquired Morgan Ensberg from the Astros, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.
Ensberg, Rob Mackowiak, Scott Hairston... we hope the Padres realize they're only allowed to carry 25 players at a time. Adding both Ensberg and Mackowiak seems to show how they don't have a lot of faith in Kevin Kouzmanoff.

Oh my god, what's with the Padres? They have too much... Just too much...
Rotoworld is retarded.Adding both Ensberg and Mackowiak seems to show how they don't have a lot of faith in Kevin Kouzmanoff.
Apparently nobody outside of San Diego is paying any attention to Kevin Towers when he talks about how he is looking to improve the bench.

I know what it's about. But with a team lacking punch like the Padres, the punch needed to win playoff games, saying Towers isn't acquiring guys like Ensberg, Barrett, or Bradley (guys who have had success over a starting season) is just not true. Of course getting a Hairston is a bench move, but since the Padres aren't willing to part with a big prospect to get a big bat, you have to think a guy like Ensberg in particular is Towers hopeful diamond in a rough, the guy they'll correct and he'll be praised for the acquisition.
I never said Towers is doing a bad job, fine moves for what they've given up. Bradley was studly in the playoffs last year and Ensberg has been one of the most feared hitters just a few years ago, good moves for potential alone.

Not really, drop Jose Cruz and Geoff Blum who are just dead weight and they improve what Kevin Towers said he was set out to improve.
Everyone's so blindsided by the thought of people making that headline making move to acquire some huge star they don't realize what's going on when someone's just trying to make subtle changes.

Now you tell me, lol. Too lazy to read why they're doing too closely.
Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Khalil Greene, Mike Cameron, Milton Bradley, Brian Giles, Marcus Giles, Michael Barrett
That's an entire line up of guys who have proven they can handle a bat.
The reason the Padres are "punchless" is because 1) They have collectively gone on their slumps at around the same times (everyone goes on slumps, but it doesn't usually happen at around the same time...) and 2) They can't get much rest because those backing them up....suck, to put it lightly.
2 is being fixed, 1 is just dumb luck.
(Barrett and Bradley replaced Bard and Cruz/Sledge, which was needed and done.)
This doesn't guarantee anything, naturally, but unlike a lot of sports "experts" who aren't really paying attention, these moves don't leave me scratching my head.

I am not questioning anything that Towers is doing, it's clear what he has been doing and that is getting players with some success in the past on the cheap in hopes of them working in San Diego, ala my first post. I never said that Mack and Hairston are the new 3 and 4 hitters, but Barrett is playing, Bradley is playing and I guarantee that Ensberg will get a shot ON OCCASION.
Kouzmanoff has cooled off since his scorching May and if I am Towers, looking at his splits from his awful start (possible rookie-itis), bouncing back and looking like a star in May, to finally cooling down more over the next two months... I would have my concerns about how Kouzmanoff handles himself in the playoffs. Ensberg is not going to come and take the spot of course, but he will get AB's and a chance to prove himself I have to think. Ensberg is coming off his best month this season hitting .320 with limited power for a .820 OPS and I am sure the think tank is hoping there is a glimmer of a chance for him to turn it around in some capacity and possibly score them a big bat on the cheap... that's it. I am not bashing the Padres at all as I would of liked the Reds to had gotten Barrett quite a bit, and if we traded Dunn I would of liked Bradley as well. It's bench moves on a whole, but some of them (like Ensberg) have the chance to be more than just bench players and that is a logically reason to trade for them.
