Rosenthal: Braves close to getting Dotel

Not only are the Braves getting Mark Teixeira, but they're close to acquiring Octavio Dotel from the Royals, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

Going for broke. No word on what the Braves would give up. Yunel Escobar was surely a topic of conversation, but Atlanta probably isn't parting with him for a rental. Shortstop Brent Lillibridge, RHP Tommy Hanson and outfielder Jordan Schafer are candidates to be involved.

My thoughts exactly. There is still time to get a starter but a good move since Wickman has been struggling. Davies has really sucked this year. I think the Royals could have done much, much better.

According to the Kansas City Star, the Royals will acquire Kyle Davies from the Braves for Octavio Dotel.
Definitely a deal worth making for Kansas City. Davies' stock has fallen the last two years, but he's just 23 and he still has a chance to be a long-term No. 3.

Davies has been irritating me lately so I wouldn't mind getting rid of him.

Pat yourself on the back, Dayton Moore. Instead of acquiring a promising middle infield prospect from the Dodgers, you opt for a pitcher whose stock has bottomed out from the Braves. Most folks wouldn't pick the door with the goat behind it if they already knew there was a goat behind it.
