Rumor: Angels interested in Jason Giambi

MLB isn't the only outfit interested in the New York Yankees' Jason Giambi.

According to a person with knowledge of the Los Angeles Angels' thinking, the AL West leaders have an interest in acquiring the Yankees' DH to bolster a lineup that is last in the league in home runs.

The Angels' interest in Giambi, who was in a 1-for-26 slump and batting .268 going into last night's game, was before the recent controversy surfaced.

Considering the source, it's most likely a non-substantiated rumor, but it's still worth some discussion.

The Angels have already taken one alleged steroid use (Matthews) so why not another? The Yankees would have to eat a lot of salary for this to even become a substantiated rumor.

I don't like this rumor. I doubt the Yankees would consider trading Giambi even with the contract nonsense, where are they gonna replace his bat from Anaheim?
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

I don't see this happening at all. Who would the Angels have to give up? They can't afford to take on his streaky play at the moment. Yes, I realize that Vlad needs another power hitter to protect him. But there has to be better hitters available near the deadline.

The thing is there won't be hardly any bats left near the deadline. Guys like Hunter and Jones whose contracts are up after this year are still going to be in a race for the playoffs. Yankees need relief help badly and that's something the Angels have.

Yes, let's give the Yankees Hector Carrasco and call it a deal.

Craig Wilson is a FA. Angels could pick him up since they want mediocre players.

Re: Rumor: Angels interested in Jason Giambi

Jason Giambi would be a nice DH for the Angels, but they really don't need him. They have a couple of guys in their minors that can hit as well as he does, and don't have the clouds over them that he has.
    I don't see it happening.
