Royals make intelligent signing! Octavio Dotel, 1 year/5 mil

    With 2 mil in incentives.

Great deal for the Royals, as he's a fantastic closer if healthy and this deal can't hurt them that much if it fails.

And there goes another one I wanted. Oh well, Stanton, Gonzales and Moeller were the top of my list anyway.

All sacarsm and Reds bitterness aside, this is a solid signing for the Royals and one that actually makes sense for them. Hopefully he can have a bounceback season, pick up value and they could flip him for a nifty spect or two at the deadline as their system really needs some depth.

The Royals have added three pitchers which makes me smile. Meche, Bannister and Dotel. I more excited about the Royals with a whole year with Ryan Shealy.

I really like this signing by the Royals. They protect themselves by giving him a one year deal, and if he stays healthy and does well, they may be able to move him at the deadline for some nice young pieces. I say that because I am sure they won't be contending this up coming season.
"They asked me if I wanted the ball in Game 6, and I said yes. I'll always say yes. That's what I did with Jack McKeon. I told him, 'Let me see how I feel tomorrow.' I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." -Josh Beckett

Wow! Someone that actually signed for a decent amount. If he's healthy he'll be a great pitcher for them if he will be a great acquisition for them. Well worth $5 mil considering how much everyone else is going for.

The Royals have improved themselves a lot this off-season. They have a decent bunch of kids that are ready, or nearly so, and they will be more competitive next season. I'm sorry Buck O'Neil couldn't have been here to see the Royals get better, though.
Kaufmann Stadium is too good a ballpark for the team that they had on the field the past couple of years.

And in 2008. And in 2009.
