Devil Rays signed catcher Yamid Haad to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
When he wasn't serving a 50-game steroids suspension, Haad hit .182 in the minors last season. The 29-year-old might be the backup for Shawn Riggans at Triple-A Durham.

Devil Rays signed infielder Jorge Velandia to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Velandia, 32, last appeared in the majors with the Mets in 2003. He's a better option as a backup shortstop that Luis Ordaz, who miraculously opened 2006 on the Rays' roster. That's not saying much, though.

Devil Rays signed first baseman Hee-Seop Choi to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
A report yesterday indicated that there was an option year on the deal that could make the contract worth up to $2 million. Choi could get a chance to compete for the starting job at first base in spring training. However, after his knee troubles last season, he's probably a long shot to break camp with the club.

Devil Rays re-signed RHP Tony Peguero to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Peguero, who turns 26 in February, went 10-12 with a 2.97 ERA, 132 H and 93/39 K/BB in 151 2/3 innings for Double-A Montgomery last season. He might get a look as a middle reliever at some point, but he has little upside.

Devil Rays signed RHP Stephen Andrade to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Andrade, 28, finally got to make his major league debut last season, but he didn't last long in the Kansas City pen after giving up five runs in 4 2/3 innings. He'd still likely prove to be fairly useful if he received more of a look. His slider makes him tough on right-handers.
