If I remember, werent you the one saying that the cubs overpaid for Soriano. Who put up similar numbers as Beltran did.

    BA. 280 OBP 351, 560 slg, 46 hr, 95 rbi, and 41 SB.

Yes, and Soriano is coming off of a career year in which he topped, for the first time ever, the .900 mark for OPS. He'll need to repeat that to justify his money and make it so he's not being overpaid, similar to how Beltran was nearly the MVP of the NL this year and that justified his salary.

Those are Belran's career numbers, he only hit over 300 once, I'm not saying those are bad numbers, those are good numbers, but those numbers do not justify his 100+ Million dollar contract IMO.

    Brewers

defense and speed have never been his problems, but his offense has always been the question mark about his game. So time will tell if he is worth the money, or if he is going to be another over paid bust! I hope that he performs and earns his money. I never like to see anyone fail, so even though I and many others may have our hesitations and qualms, I do wish him all the luck in succeeding unless of course it happens to be against the Brewers!

He's only hit over .300 once but you're completely ignoring every other statistic there.

Boy am I glad Matthews didn't go to the Giants. Why are the Giants willing to overpay for such shitty talent? Pierre and now Matthews? Too bad the Cubs beat the Giants to another bid for Soriano.

What are you talking about? People ignoring RBIs or something?

And you're doing a lot more than "ignoring a statistic," you're ignoring every statistic except one.

You know exactly what I'm talking about.

So how many other players make 10-13M a year for hitting .280?

If i'm ignoring every other statistic, than you sure are ignoring the lineup the mets had.

No, I have no idea what you're talking about, because you're being vague and unresponsive.

Jim Thome made 14 million to hit .288, Beltran made 13 million to hit .275, Jason Giambi made 20 million to hit .253, Alex Rodriguez made 25 million to hit .290, Soriano made 10 million to hit .277, Delgado made 13 million to hit .265, Andruw Jones made 13 million to hit .262, JD Drew made 12 million to hit .283, Burrell made 10 million to hit .258, Glaus made 10 million to hit .252, Posada made 12 million to hit .277, Richie Sexson made 13 million to hit .264, Damon made 13 million to hit .285, Torii Hunter made 10 million to hit .278, Luis Gonzalez made 11 million to hit .271, Adrian Beltre made 13 million to hit .268, Eric Chavez made 10 million to hit .241, Shawn Green made 10 million to hit .277, Garrett Anderson made 10 million to hit .280, Barry made 20 million to hit .270. Obviously not too rare of a thing.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that the Mets lineup is why Carlos Beltran suddenly became a 40 homerun hitter and stepped up the rest of his game to another level, but hey, you go right on ahead and think it was Carlos Delgado, David Wright, and Jose Reyes that shot Beltran's OPS up from .920 to .990 and not his own growth and hitting his prime.

Yup thats what I'm saying having a killer lineup does help a player's numbers to increase.

can anyone understand what he's trying to say here cause using batting average as a crutch for any argument... well sucks.

If you're going to rely on one stat and ignore every other one known to man (which is always a bad idea) at least use OPS.

If batting average is the end all be all stat then Alex Sanchez would be the toast of the town instead of getting cut while in the midst of hitting .320s by Detroit and wouldnt had sat at Louisville for Cincinnati all year last year.

If you're going to use one stat to the exclusion of all other, at least use WARP3.
