    Dodgers reacquire reliever

Dodgers acquired RHP Elmer Dessens from the Royals for LHP Odalis Perez, RHP Blake Johnson, RHP Julio Pimentel and cash considerations.
The Royals must be inheriting a significant chunk of Perez's contract, because they're also getting two solid prospects here in return for a middle reliever. Dessens, in the first year of a two-year, $3.4 million contract, had a 4.50 ERA in 54 innings for the Royals. He should upgrade the Dodger bullpen, but it's not like he's a huge asset. He had a 3.56 ERA in 65 2/3 innings for the Dodgers last season. Jul. 25 - 3:27 pm et

Haven't seen this anywhere else around the boards. It's definately a damn good deal for the Royals, considering Perez could still turn out to be a real solid pitcher and Johnson is a pretty good spect.

Great deal for the Dodgers, too, because Odalis was going to be a whiny little girly ***** the entire time he'd stay in LA.

Plus he's making like 9 mil per.

KC picks up a guy who might be good and some nice prospects, LA gets a reliever who's not an eight year old girl and who's pretty cheap. Nice deal.

Obviously I don't know the whole situation with Perez like a Dodgers fan might, so I really don't know how much of an issue it was or if it was just the media overblowing a few incidents. With that said, it's an interesting deal. I was once fairly high on Perez a few offseasons ago as an interesting option to strengthen the rotation, but his stats are just flat out nasty. Head problems? Arm problems? Or both. Head problems seem to be a contributing factor, but like I said I don't know the situation in it's whole. .346 BAA is downright sad and this seems to be a desperation move as Elmer will at least bring a somewhat dependable arm to the Dodgers. Perez has been a sketchy player with consistency (although never this bad), so it will be interesting to see if the boo's are on silence, if he can turn it around. The inclusion of the prospects makes interesting for KC's side but it all depends on how much cash they agreed to take on in Perez's contract in exchange (because that contract could be a huge noose to a small town team like KC if Perez doesnt at least post a high 4/low 5 ERA.)

Perez lost some velocity, he lost some control, and he's clearly become a bit of an idiot up in the brainly regions.

So both arm and head problems. Good old Odalis.

I didn't think I would say this but good riddance to Odalis and welcome back, Mr. Fudd.

    Dear Odalis,

You've been treating me like crap.

    Sincerely,
    Your ERA

    1.72 whip for a 1.41 whip.

This is just an unwhiptastic trade.

Let the Cardinals trade for Perez. They could use more former Dodger pitchers who've been shelled in Busch Stadium, i.e. Jeff Weaver.

Better yet, he fits the yankees 3-5 spots mold.
Aaron Small, Shawn Chacon, Sydney Ponson, James Woods, Dan Akroyd, Bob Marley, ....Odalis Perez. It would be perfect.

How long will it be before Cialis Perez (I call him that because his ERA has been on the rise like its taking erectile dysfunction pills for a while now) blabs to the media that his KC teammates treat him like crap?

How long before Dessens gives up 6 earned runs in a game?

    What a race we'll have!

*puts 50 cents on Odalis being the better teammate and pitcher*

Elmer can REALLY put away the buffet, it's only a matter of time before he pisses a Dodger off.

I first thought you said "pisses on a teammate".... cause I'd put a dollar on seeing that happen. Dessens luck, it would be Matt Kemp. Matt would go Shawn on a ****er.

It's very possible. Even Wilton Guerrero gets a base hit here and there and Ryan Vogelsong pitches a scoreless inning once in a while.
