Yeah. Jocketty's far too talented. Getting Mulder and his 6 ERA was such an excellent move. Not to mention that Sidney Ponson acquisition. Brilliant move. Oh, or getting Jeff Weaver. Fantastic.
Cardinals don't have much of a farm. I'd be surprised if a name as big as Willis moves. Also, when has mlbtraderumors.com ever broken a story? The only way I ever believe their rumors is if they cite someone else.

The Cards have the second best record in the NL for a reason. Part of it is because the brilliant pitching staff pieced together by Walt Jocketty. Part of it is only he adding someone as stellar as Pujols.
The fact is, I have consistently been right about his dominance. He continues to prove me right through division titles.

His brilliant pitching staff has only 1 starter with an era under 5 (Carpenter).

His pitchers gut out wins when they need them more than other pitchers. If anything career numbers show some guys on their starting staff are due to get better at any time. Their career numbers are better than they have shown so far this year.
And their bullpen has been quite stellar.
I think our owner, GM and manager need to look to the Cards on how to get over the top in a playoff race. St. Louis is so lucky.

Except Jocketty's teams are more consistently good than Beane's. I know the payroll is larger in St. Louis, but the fact is, with all of the talent sitting around in St. Louis, Jocketty can afford to take gambles. He is right about 90 percent of the time.

At this juncture, Walt Jocketty and Omar Minaya are looking like the best NL GM's this year. Of course neither of those guys being on that list surprises me at ALL.

no, the St Louis offense "guts" out wins more often than not, the pitchers just throw the ball and hope the opposing offense doesn't score more.

Their offense and defense are in the middle third of the majors and they are a relatively mediocre (average) team. With Pujols back, they should improve production, but according purely to Runs Scored/Against, that's what they are.
And I'm not afraid of their player base. They have a total of three players who scare me: Pujols, Rolen, and Carpenter.

Yet their offense is 4th in the NL in Runs Scored. They have more Runs/Game than the Reds do. That is pretty sad and most of that was before the Kearns/Felipe trade. It appears our offense just hasn't had the talent the Cards offense has all year long.
Their pitching is near the middle of the league in ERA, but their bullpen ERA is quite a bit higher I think.
They have a better record than most MLB teams and despite their Pythag. Record, they are the type of team who always seems to win games when they have to. It seems Jocketty has an eye for getting "gutty" players.
