    Tejada to Angels?

    Courtesy of Prosportsdaily:

BALTIMORE, June 22 -- Though it was reported in several Los Angeles area newspapers that the Angels could have an interest in Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada, the two teams have not had any talks recently, according to an Orioles source. That may change, however, if the Orioles continue to slide in the standings.

The source did not deny the team would listen to offers for the superstar shortstop if Baltimore plays poorly in the weeks leading up to the July 31 trade deadline.

If the Orioles put Tejada on the trading block, there likely would be no shortage of suitors. The Angels, who have been looking for a power bat, seem like a perfect fit since they have a surplus of young talent in their minor league system.

The Tigers or White Sox could also be possibilities. Tejada, who entered Thursday's game hitting .321 with 16 home runs, is not expected to come cheap. . . .

Interesting. It would be fun to see the Tigers and the White Sox duke it out for him. I don't want to see him come back to the AL West though...

yeah i really dont see the Angels doing this if they continue to play so badly, and if Vlad continues to slump.

On the other hand the Angels might be thinking that Tejada may be just the tonic to turn it all around.

Meanwhile 4 of the better near ready offensive prospects in baseball continue to waste away at AAA

If the trade were to happen, it will involve either Kotchman or Jared Weaver. One of them or even both will go.

No, I don't think the Orioles will want Kotchman, due to his injury history. Add to the fact that firstbasemen are fairly easy to find. If the Orioles were to trade Tejada, they will certainly need Brandon Wood in return. They have no one in the high minors to take over as the next shortstop. Melvin Mora or Brian Roberts could play short, but we run into the same problem.

I do not think we will ask for Weaver, considering both Hayden Penn and Adam Loewen will be ready for next season. Add them to Kris Benson, Erik Bedard, Daniel Cabrera, Rodrigo Lopez (possibility), and Russ Ortiz (possibility) there will be a logjam at starting pitcher next season. Kendry Morales would be another possibility, as he is blocked by Kotchman.
