    The easiest way to achieve a nice background is to learn the basics of Photoshop through Good-Tutorials and find some nice brush packs on Deviant Art. That will get you started.

    i do for a lot of mine, found here...i just use it as a base so i can lay down some brushes and then add a brightness/contrast layer and a color balance layer, then my text layer style and then blam you have a grungy-type image
