    '16/17 NHL season

So, displaying how much attention I pay to hockey, I just learned that there's a franchise beginning play in Las Vegas in the '17/18 season.

But I don't see anything indicating a 2nd expansion team. Are there plans for that or do they plan on operating with 31 teams?

Current plan is to operate with 31. Quebec was in the running to get a team again, but one of the reasons I read not yet was because of the $$$ involved to make it happen and the value of the Canadian dollar vs American. Because there is a HUGE fee you have to pay to start. $500 million dollars.

I am sure they could've got around that, so I am sure there are other reason(s), but that is one that I remember floating around at the time

Still can't believe they named the team the Las Vegas Nevadans.

According to Wikipedia they haven't officially picked a name but registered "Desert Knights", "Silver Knights", and "Golden Knights" and will officially pick one on November 18th.

But I did recognize that as a knock on the Texans.

Hey, the Montreal Canadiens still excist, and 20 years ago half the population didn't want to be Canadian.

If it weren't for the fact that the city of Glendale would have a white elephant on its hands with an empty $200 million arena, the Coyotes should have been the team to move if another city in the desert wanted a team.

I'm putting Auston Matthews on the Mount Rushmore of Mexican-American athletes, along with Ted Williams, Michael Young, and Dan Haren.

They officially unveiled the Vegas Golden Knights name, only for the U.S. Patent Office to reject their trademark application.

Due to an appeal by a small division II school in Albany, NY

They plan on appealing, and I don't see why they can't win the appeal.

There's two different "Jets" in professional sports, there used to be two different "Oilers", there's two "Kings", and that's only across the 4 major professional sports.

In college football there's three "Tigers" in the SEC alone, so I don't see how they can't let an NHL team share a nickname with some small unheard of school in the middle of New York State and Army's parachute team.

I'm trying to get into hockey but I don't have NHL Network so what do you suggest for me? What's the best way to follow it for a newcomer? I live on the west coast so I am intrigued to live the new Vegas team but I lived in North Carolina for 3 years so I am also partial to the Hurricanes. Any advice there?

You don't have AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain? They carry the Vegas team's games.

I'm assuming you don't live in the northern panhandle of the state.
