This isn't about me. It's just my brain doesn't accept this style of draft in an MLB sim for whatever reason.:wat:
Re: 2054 in-season shindig
Like I said, it's a matter of perspective.
I mean, I get that if I were to resim the same season 100 times the 82 win team isn't going to win the WS more than maybe once.
But at the end of the day that's the end goal of the season and it seems like highway robbery to me for a team to accomplish that and still pick in the middle of the draft.

I was just saying your team (that you brought into the conversation, not me) was as much of a poor example as it was for me to point out how I won 110+ games missed the World Series and still had to pick last in TBL one year. (But I admited it, lol)

You're right. It is perspective.
I personally believe it's highway robbery for a 100+ win team to pick 16th.

If a 100 win team is missing the playoffs they obviously have some mighty difficult competition to deal with and can use the help.
The draft is a crapshoot with development anyway. One of the league's best pitchers was a 3rd round draft pick.
Re: 2054 in-season shindig
Ok... I can't hold back any longer. MLB is a 162 game season. The best records almost always go to the best and deepest teams. We all know the playoffs are a crap shoot. Trendy's position in this debate holds the most logic, in my humble opinion. Conversely, football is 16 regular season games where there is much less difference between the top and bottom teams.
The higher draft pick does not need to go to the unluckiest team, but the weakest team. Sometimes the weaker team gets lucky and wins the World Series.

Whoops. Meant 17th, not 16th.

The playoffs are much more of a crapshoot than the draft is. My humble opinion is that many GMs rush their prospects causing some of the loss of talent that occurs. I emphasize that it is an opinion only based on watching certain GMs year after year.

Right, but when Boston's 78 win team beat my 100+ win team in the first round, having them pick behind me didn't help league parity at all. They were the weaker team and more deserving of the higher draft spot.... from my perspective of course. :)
Re: 2054 in-season shindig
That's not the point. It's not just the 24th pick, it's the 17th-24th picks.
Re: 2054 in-season shindig
I really don't care which way the order is, but, the draft is based on the previous season, yes? Nothing else? Not a one time or spanning occurrence? Then why shouldn't the WS winner pick last? Sure it may be a fluke, and that's the counter balance. The goal of baseball after making money is to win it all. If you win it all, you've succeeded. The draft is a reflection of that fact. That's why there's a yearly draft and a season played every year.

It seems to me Boston did very well for themselves considering that's who that 97 up there represents.
At the end of the day good GMing trumps all.

And I enjoyed beating you a lot more than if I had a higher pick. Karma came around though, I missed the playoffs despite having 95 wins the next season.
