GML/General Manager League (A not quite Sim League for football)

Was curious if there was any interest in this game. I brought it up a couple years ago. It's not like the sim leagues per se. Kingdom, Hammer, Witlon, Deez, and Schisno play in it. It's pretty difficult to explain, but basically:

What it is: team and roster construction, drafting, signing free agents, hire and fire coaches. Like the NFL offseason essentially. The game is played on a forum, with posts and stuff, not like OOTP. It lasts for a few months of the year, every year from FEB to JUN or so.

What it isn't: a continuous sim with games played and winners and records (as of now). We used to sort of do it on Madden but it became a pain.

Winners are generally determined by vote. So it really depends what one wants. If the sim leagues are fun solely because of competition and such, GML may not be so fun. If part/a lot of the fun for the sim leagues is trading, drafting, signing and building your team (which is the main purpose I play, I've stated I have winning low on my priority list overall) then you'd enjoy the game

I'm not sure if that fully sums it up, so if there are any questions, please ask. Here's the league from a couple years ago for an example. GM League: Year 1 - Stadium Rejects

Better get in on this, if you like dealing with cap figures and going through the process of trading with other GMs it's for you. Of course my favorite part is always the draft.

Even I, a person who doesn't really like to trade, enjoy this stuff. If I can do it, anyone can.

Seems weird at first but once you get in the thick of things, it is a lot of fun.

You might get enough GMs so that I can stay retired.

Re: GML/General Manager League (A not quite Sim League for football)

We do a full 7 round draft, with comp picks given out through an equation that Mach uses.

I usually do a mock draft of our drafts and use a character to do write ups on what they think of it with draft grade.
Here's an example of my last two draft classes where I was given the Jets.

    2012 New York Jets
    2.44 - Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama
2.48 - Harrison Smith, SS, Notre Dame
2.63 - Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson
3.66 - Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse
    3.80 - Ben Jones, C, Georgia
3.96 - Chris Rainey, RB, Florida
4.125 - Ronnie Hillman, RB, San Diego State
4.128 - Ryan Lindley, QB, San Diego State
    5.131 - Matt McCants, OT, Alabama-Birmingham
6.179 - Tank Carder, LB, Texas Christian
    6.191 - Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, DT, Baylor
7.193 - Terrance Ganaway, RB, Baylor
7.202 - Matt Conrath, DT, Virginia
7.216 - Junior Hemingway, WR, Michigan

    2013 New York Jets
    2.56 - Jamie Collins - LB
    3.81 - Aaron Dobson - WR
    4. 110 - Brian Winters - OG
    4. 111 - Kevin Riddick - LB
    4. 112 - Tharold Simon - CB
    4. 113 - JJ Wilcox - S
    4. 114 - Tyler Wilson - QB
    6.170 - Khaled Holmes - C
    6.187 - Lavar Edwards - OLB
    6.191 - Earl Wolff - SS
    7.199 - Knile Davis - RB
    7.204 - Joe Kruger - DE
    7.205 - Lerentee McCray - LB

So you can see it's fun to do and look at after the real draft is finished. We do a draft game to see who had the best +/- as well.

Below is an example of the Kiper at the Draft write ups I do.

Peter Kiper: Can't say I argue with what Pittsburgh did by taking Milliner, he is clearly the best prospect in terms of ability and potential. I still question whether he was the best overall prospect for the first overall pick. However this year we don't have a receiver on the level of AJ Green to make a direct Patrick Peterson vs AJ Green comparison here. I'll give this high marks but still question whether a cornerback should go first overall. Although I did hear the Steelers tried hard to trade out of the pick.

    Kiper Grade: A

Next we have the Patriots who I have taking Sharrif Floyd, but like the Steelers they have an unknown quantity listed as their starting quarterback so don't be surprised if they throw caution to the wind and actually draft Geno to compete with the former third rounder Ryan Mallett.

    Peter Kiper:

#2 Overall - New England selects WR Tavon Austin, West Virginia

I'll ask you folks this, would you take Percy Harvin with the second overall pick if he were to come out this year? Would you take a lesser version physically this early? Typically my answer would be no, but seeing as this draft is deep with solid talent but no clear cut talent that you can nail down as top ten it changes my answer slightly. For years the Patriots have thrived with Wes Welker causing mismatches with slower linebackers in the slot and I believe the reasoning for this is that they still want that component to their offense. Though, now they have someone who offers the ability to create more wrinkles in the offensive game plan than Welker could. My only problem with this is that the Patriots should have traded down for better value, but I know how tough that is especially this year.

Overall this helps the team on offense and should take some focus off Gronkowski, expect another receiver with their next pick.

    Peter Kiper Grade: B-

I would have to pass. I have a hard enough time keeping up with MSL these days. Sorry.

We're running it at SR (that's a clicky link) this year. That's the specific sub forum and you can look over the rules and such if you want to get a sense of how things go and time consumption.

I need to manually approve new regs to keep out spam, fyi.

if you want them you can have them. Favourite team (sort of with caveats) clause. I just opened the team selection thread. It's not first come first serve because we're commies.
