    Inherited Keeper League Team

    Original roster.

    C - Ivan Rodriguez
1b - Nick Swisher (OF), Ben Broussard
2b - Jose Castillo, Tadahito Iguchi
3b - Ryan Zimmerman, Morgan Ensberg
SS - Jhonny Peralta, David Eckstein
OF - Jacque Jones, Nick Markakis, Gary Sheffield, Chris Duffy, Brian Giles, Willy Taveras
SP - Mark Buehrle, Chris Capuano, Chiein-Ming Wang, Jake Peavy, Freddy Garcia, Cliff Lee, Kevin Millwood
RP - Brian Fuentes, Takashi Saito

After some trades I've acquired Francouer, Hamles, and Weeks.

Traded an 11th rounder for Weeks, third rounder for Hamels, and fifth rounder for Francouer.

Got great value for Weeks. Might have overpayed a tad for Francouer, but if he can ever develop a little discipline look out.

Week get to keep 7 guys. It's a 12 team league with the scoring categories as OBP, HR, R, SB, RBIs. For pitching it's WHIP, Ks, SV, W, and ERA.

Right now my keepers are Francouer, Markakis, Weeks, Zimmerman, Peavy, and Hamels. Still contemplating on my last keeper choice. It's between Sheff, Peralta, and Saito. Leaning torwards Sheff at this point.

It all depends on where you are picking in the first round of the draft.... and whether or not those picking before you have interest in players that you may drop, or if they even have a need (if the 2 players picking in front of you have full OF's, chances are they won't surge after Sheff)....

It is not just inherently about the 'best' player... look a little deeper... I'd love to give you more advise on it after you would show the other needed info as to the situation

Well all Keepers have to be in on the 14th of March. Guess I could ask around and try to figure out whos keeping who.

I have the first pick of the draft and it's a serpentine draft so I'm kinda in a bind early.

My draft picks are as follows:

    8th (85)
    9th (108)
    13th(156)
    14th(157)
    15th(180)
    16th(181)
    17th(204)
    18th(205)
    19th(228)
    20th(229)
    21st (252)
    22nd(253)
    23rd(270)
    23rd (276)
    24th(277)
    24th(288)
    25th(289)
    25th(300)

That's the breakdown of draft picks.

My draft is going to be crucial torwards my success. Need to make sure I grab some guys late with potential.

Nice little core there, young and impressive. Personally, I like Saito as the last keeper, it's nice not to have to reach for saves in early rounds because of player runs(DD knows it's true.)

Also, if you only have 7 keepers, you may want to get forget about potential, as it's unlikely that guys like Zimmerman, Weeks, Peavy, Markakis, ect. are going to fall off your keeper list, isn't there? I mean, there's a chance you may sour on Francouer if he hits .230, but you can't overdo it.

Draft for one season, but keep the keeper idea in the back of your mind when disinquishing between players. Personal stategy passed on.

    Thanks for the Advice.

I think I have a pretty good core as well, and as you stated most of these guys maybe one will probably remain my keepers next season. So what I need to draft is guys that provide for me now and not really high risk high reward guys.

What's normally the average number of starting pitchers on a roster?

Just trying to gauge how many more starters i'll need.

Depends on the need, in typical Yahoo Publics(SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P) I run with 4 starting pitchers on the team, I don't know exactly the position layout. But in Roto leagues, you have to be careful with IP limits.

Thanks what do you think of my Sheets deal?

I mean i'm hurting the first couple rounds of the draft after my first pick, but I have more picks later in the draft.

The key is going to be finding value later in the draft.

I love Sheets, if he can stay healthy and that's definately a solid deal for him, he's a risk/reward guy, but the reward is too great to pass up such a good deal for him.

    Love the move.

If Chris Duffy, Brian Giles, and David Eckstein are keepers in your league then I don't want to know what type of players are available in the 25th round.

Who said these guys are keepers???

These are guys that were on the teams roster I inherited at the end of last season. I have until the 14th to provide my 7 keepers from the 25 player list.

Yeah, he said that he inherited the team and he had to close last years keepers(instead of at the end of the year, he had to do his early this year presumably because the team didn't have an owner.)

Update: My draft is tomorrow night looking for some suggestions.

    Scoring:
Batters - R, RBI, HR, SB, OBP
Pitchers - W, SV, Ks, WHIP, ERA

    Roster:
    C -
    1B -
    2B - Weeks
    3B - Zimmerman
    SS -
    OF - Francouer
    OF - Markakis
    OF -
    UT -
    UT -

    SP - Peavy
    SP - Sheets
    RP -
    RP -
    P - Hamels
    P -
    P -

    8 Bench spots

I have the number one draft pick which is in the 8th round, and then after that don't pick again until the 13th round. So 71 picks will be made after my first pick until my next.

I'm trying to trade the pick, but that's another story.

Here are the top guys ranked 115 or higher according to ESPNs rankings that are still available.

    Johnny Damon
    Brian Roberts
    Jermain Dye
    Carlos Guillen
    Robinson Cano
    Juan Pierre
    Mariano Rivera
    Jim Thome
    Troy Glaus
    Richie Sexson
    Nick Swisher
    Felipe Lopez
    John Smoltz
    Chipper Jones
    Brandon Phillips
    Gary Sheffield
    Scott Rolen
    Brett Myers
    Howie Kendrick
    Corey Patterson
    Dan Haren
    Julio Lugo
    Joe Crede
    Chris Young
    Brad Lidge
    Jason Schmidt
    Chad Cordero
    Matsuzaka

    Matt Cain
    Dann uggla
    Erik Bedard
    Takashi Saito
    Adrian Gonzalez
    Michael Cuddyer
    Francisco Cordero
    Adam LaRoche
    Magglio Ordonez
    Tom Gordon
