Ryan Wilson at CBSSports.com wrote a "bold predictions" article in which he "boldly" predicts the Chargers win the AFC West

Bold NFL Predictions for 2014: Chargers will win the AFC West - CBSSports.com

Except, if you read his rationale he goes on to say it only happens if Peyton Manning gets injured, which completely negates the boldness of his prediction.

"First from Smith and then from Michael Vick, when he replaces the second-year quarterback (which, we suppose, is a not-so-bold prediction)."

if the jets start 2-6 or 3-5, which is very very likely given our first 8 games... what makes people think that vick will ever play? if we're gonna lose, we might as well see what geno is, to tell us whether we should draft a qb next year or not, while tanking enough to get in position to get a better draft pick. why play a 34 year old, who wont be on the roster after this season, just to give a good effort and perhaps win 8 games. thats the rationale of a long term mediocre team...

... which is exactly why itll be what the jets do.

    Re: nfl predictions thread...

I'm not as thorough or addicted as hammer, so I'm only going to pick playoff teams and awards.

    AFC playoff teams:

    New England
    Cincinnati
    Indianapolis - first round bye
    Denver - first round bye
    Baltimore
    Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh keeps Cincinnati's trend of one and done going, Flacco flucks up this time and New England stomps Balty. Pittsburgh then gets routed by the Denver Mannings, despite Emmanuel Sanders getting his head knocked off by Lawrence Timmons in the first Q. Luck takes the torch from Brady but then watches it get snuffed out by Denver the next week. Denver to the Super Bowl.

(bold picks: Houston makes it in if they commit far fewer turnovers and stay healthy; New York makes it if Genock is at least efficient; Pittsburgh overcomes the Le'Veon Drug Experience to have an unexpected great year and make it to the Super Bowl)

    NFC playoff teams:

    Dallas
    Green Bay
New Orleans - first round bye
    Seattle - first round bye
    Chicago
    Carolina

In a battle of maligned QBs, Cutler bests Romo. Green Bay goes home early after Carolina runs for 600 yards. Unfortunately, Carolina only runs for 6 yards the next week against Seattle, while Chicago upsets the Saints. Seattle discovers Richard Sherman's kryptonite is in fact, Brandon Marshall's green shoes, as they lose a tight game. Chicago goes to the Super Bowl. (full disclosure, I hated how much my initial picks seemed to be too common, so I completely changed things up just for fun)

(bold picks: I'm really not feeling San Fran at all, even though I like the idea of Hyde and Lattimore getting carries from Gore instead of Hunter and James, and then some issues on defense, and then the drama with Harbaugh and the front office.. so I guess my bold pick is Carolina doesn't regress much after the running game gets better, Benjamin proves to be a good draft pick, and Cam has a 2004 Daunte Culpepper season. Other bold pick: Coaching change + stability at QB = Buccaneers taking off)

    MVP: Camelot Newtonius the III
    Offensive POY: Peyton Manning
Defensive POY: Sheldon Richardson's legend grows..
    Offensive ROY: Bishop Sankey
Defensive ROY: Aaron Donald (dark horse pick, Bashaud Breeland)
    Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
    Ted
: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
    Barney: Circle gets the square!

    Re: nfl predictions thread...

Maybe I'll go through the schedule this weekend but for now, some quick picks...

    AFC:
    East: New England
North: Cincinnati : Less throwing from Andy Dalton can only make them better.
    South: Indianapolis (Bye)
    West: Denver (Bye)
    WC1: Baltimore
    WC2: Kansas City : Alex Smith 4 PREZ~!

    - In Week 17, Johnny Manziel will be asked to take a knee to preserve a Browns victory over the Ravens. Instead, Manziel, safely at 101 rushing yards for the game, plows forward into the line of scrimage and has the ball knocked out of his hands by Courtney Upshaw and returned 38 yards for a touchdown by Jimmy Smith. After the game, Manziel will be quote, "I'm not losing my 100 yards rushing just to win our fifth game of the season. Fuck that." The Ravens win officially knocks the Steelers out of the playoffs.

    NFC:
East: Washington - My pick solely based on the fact they play the Cowboys in Week 17.
    North: Packers - *sigh*
    South: Saints
    West: Seattle
    WC1: San Francisco
    WC2: Atlanta

    - Tony Romo's three 4th quarter interceptions allows Washington to storm back from a 28-3 defecit in the 4th period and Kirk Cousins scores a game winning touchdown with 0:28 on the clock on a 15 yard run. Jerry Jones defended Romo by saying, "Why run the ball up 25 when you have TONY ROMO?!?"

    Playoffs:
    New England d. Kansas City
    Baltimore d. Cincinnati
    Atlanta d. Washington
    San Francisco d. New Orleans

    Indianapolis d. New England
    Denver d. Baltimore

    Seattle d. Atlanta
    Green Bay d. San Francisco

    Denver d. Indianapolis
    Green Bay d. Seattle

    Super Bowl:
    Denver d. Green Bay

OMVP: Andrew Luck - There's no way Indy would get that far based on Trent Richardson, that's for sure.
    DMVP: J.J. Watt
    ORook: Kelvin Benjamin, CAR
    DRook: Ryan Shazier, PIT

I hope this happens and we get a repeat performance from this guy.

I really do not understand all the love for KC. They feasted on the weakest schedule last year they finished 2-6. With the NFC west as their cross conference schedule they are going to get demolished.

And I will take the over on most of the Raiders Predictions. I'll try and take a look next week before to put my thoughts out there.

KC has a strong defense, a decent enough QB, and one of the 3 best RBs in the game. I'm not too sold on them either but I also wouldn't write them off.
