Re: Mock Draft With Machinator, GIK, Hammer, Schisno, Witlon, and Kingdom

With the first overall pick, the Houston Texans will select Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina

Some project that the Texans will use the first overall pick on a quarterback or possibly outside linebacker Khalil Mack however in the end, Houston will elect to take the best player in the draft. Clowney has a few question marks coming out of college, mostly his work ethic. However it's been reported that head coach Bill O'Brien isn't concerned with the reports. Clowney has played in a traditional 4-3 defense while at South Carolina and may be asked to move to outside linebacker in the Texans. Clowney could also replace the departed Antonio Smith if they feel that Clowney could pay 3-4 defensive end while adding 15 pounds during the offseason. If Clowney is as good as advertised, he should be able to make the conversion to the 3-4. Without having to face the constant double teams and triple teams like he did at South Carolina, Clowney should be able to make an instant impact for the Texans pass rush while NFL offense continue to wrap their heads around stopping All-Pro JJ Watt.

With the second overall pick, the St Louis Rams select Greg Robinson, OT Auburn

Robinson has the athletic ability to become a franchise LT. He'll play RT from jump street for the Rams, but the skill set is there. I think the Rams are in a little better shape at WR than they are on the Line... especially considering they used a 1st on a WR last year... and will end up going with Robinson over Watkins. Numbers wise, they may end up regretting that, as Watkins will be a WR1 in this league, but Robinson will produce immediately and efficiently, and keep Saffold at Guard, where he actually looked capable last year.

(Ugh, I don't want to pick 9th...that's the team I'm least sure about.)

Jacksonville selects LB Khalil Mack, Buffalo.

Franchise defensive player, blah blah blah, quarterback in the second round. Great game film(including a dominant performance against Ohio State that needs to be watched), great measureables and he fills a big time need.

With the 4th overall pick, Cleveland selects WR Sammy Watkins

I'm going to take a page out of the Cincinnati Bengals' page, and go BPA and also because Gordon and Cameron need help. I know they have spent a little money on Burleson and Hawkins in free agency but Burleson spends more time on IR and Hawkins is a slot guy. Ultimately, Cleveland has had very few weapons outside of Gordon and Cameron, and Watkins will be a good one.

With the Fifth Overall Pick Oakland selects QB Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M

GM Reggie McKenzie takes the first quarterback in the draft. Manziel fits that outsider Raider personality but also falls under the athletic and exciting player that McKenzie wants to bring into the fold. They've been spending money to bring in veterans that can help them now, but they can't expect Matt Schaub to be the long term answer and because the Browns nabbed Sammy Watkins, Reggie considers Mike Evans heavily but goes to the heart of the Aggies offense last year.

Guess we'll just go every 5 picks; so much for picking for Miami...

With the sixth overall selection, the Atlanta Falcons will select Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M

The Falcons offensive line was awful in 2013 due to the injury of Sam Baker and the disappointing play of Lamar Holmes and Peter Konz. With the best available player in Jake Matthews filling a dire need in Atlanta, you can expect GM Thomas Dimitroff to go this route. It is uncertain whether Matthews will protect Ryan's blind side his rookie season or shift over to right tackle. Regardless of what the coaching staff decides, Ryan should take less hits with Matthews protecting him in 2014.

With the seventh overall pick, the Tampa Bay Bucs select Mike Evans, WR Texas A&M

Lewan is rising up mocks, but the Bucs just spent money on Anthony Collins, with a solid OT in Dotson still around. I would imagine they'll explore moving down, to maybe pick up an extra pick and grab a DT [Donald] or one of the CBs [Gilbert, Dennard, Fuller], but staying put, Mike Evans is the pick. Aside from Vincent Jackson, the receiving corps is a group of nobodies, midgets and never was'es. Evans is a similar player to Jackson, and on the other side of him, should be able to step right in and produce without seeing much in the way of double teams.

My bad, slept in. And I didn't want this pick either, ugh.

With the 8th pick, Minnesota selects QB Blake Bortles, Central Florida

    - I don't want him. (Or any of the QBs in the first this year.) But it's a mock, and I'm guessing this would the direction we went with the board laying out this way.

With the 9th pick, Buffalo selects OT Taylor Lewan

Hopefully, he's not doing more stupid shit and isn't in jail. I think adding to Glenn and Wood would beef up the line, protect Manuel, and open up lanes for Spiller and co. I considered going out on a limb but... This team had a good 2013 draft, they need to keep up with that trend.

With the 10th pick, The Detroit Lions select CB Justin Gilbert, Oklahoma State

One of the things that has plagued the Lions for years has been their defensive backfield. They NEED to address their corners with more talent and that's what they do by bringing in the best cornerback in the draft. I don't believe all this talk off drafting another defensive tackle because of what's been invested in that defensive line, but there is a possibility of adding Anthony Barr with the lack of truly gifted pass rushers in the draft.

With the 11th overall selection, the Tennessee Titans will select Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA

The Titans will elect to go the UCLA route again at linebacker, this time adding a pass rushing threat in Anthony Barr. With the switch to a 3-4 defense happening in Tennessee, the Titans could use a pure 3-4 pass rusher at outside linebacker. The addition of Barr will give Ray Horton a lot of versatility to work with.

With the 12th selection, the New York Giants select Eric Ebron, TE North Carolina

Continuing speculation that the Giants are falling in love with Zack Martin. It's plausible, but I don't buy that they aren't interested in Ebron. An athletic specimen, if nothing else, Eli makes Tight Ends into gems. And as of right now, the Giants starting Tight End is... Adrian Robinson. Brings out a lot of hope there. I think they can deal with Brown or Beatty at RT while moving Pugh to LT. Ebron is a game changer, and they can go for a developmental Tackle later in the draft.

St. Louis selects S HaSean Clinton-Dix.

    - I considered WR here, but the top safety in the draft is hard to pass up for a team with a need. TJ McDonald should be strong on one side, and with HCD on the other of the back end, it should help their corners quite a bit as well as have a solid center fielder to pick up the popflys caused by their strong pass rush.

With pick 14, the Chicago Bears select CB Darqueze Dennard

Time to revamp the defense. Bears couldn't stop anyone. And in a division with Stafford and Rodgers, you need someone to cover receivers. Could have gone with a variety of good defensive prospects but it's a passing league so, let's stop..the..pass?
