Leyland not satisfied with the defense

    Link

RELEASE POINT? If the Tigers want to avoid owing first baseman Carlos Pena his full $2.8-million salary for this season, they must release him by Wednesday (in which case they would owe him about $700,000). Pena doesn't have a role on the club and has struggled all spring. But perhaps management might want to give Pena, 27, one more shot, this time with Leyland and the new coaching staff.
This caught my eye the most. Really, I like Pena. He's been a great community guy, when he's good, he's really good. But he's inconsistent, and I could understand if the Tigers release him, but it'll just be a shame to see him not a Tiger.

As for the defense of the Tigers, glad to see Leyland focusing on it. Defense is a major part of the game, and the better defense we have, the less runs to possible be scored.

Supposedly, from what I've read, he has been released.

    Just found the link.

So, can the Sox get their 4th 1B? Let's play 1Bs at every position.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

Wow. I'd atleast thought they would have the respect to wait until Tuesday or atleast Wednesday before the deadline.

Damn....man......my whole night just got a little bit shittier. Just won't be the same ole Tigers without Carlos lining up to bat and then hitting a HR over the fence. Damn it.

He definitely won't be a free agent for long, and whoever gets him, are pretty lucky to get a great talent like him. Watch Pena go on and become an all star.

It's kind of odd, I'm willing to bet if he was released a few days earlier, the Sox would have taken him. Similar stats, but he's from nearby.

I think the Reds fans would like the Reds to take him over Hatteberg. But you're right, he should get a deal somewhere. Still, the Tigers seemed to have better options in house with Shelton.

Still, it's always tough to lose a sentimental favorite.

No doubt Shelton is going to be a great 1B. Thought Pena could atleast been a backup 1B and a DH. I'm just still amazed. I'm still a Carlos Pena fan, just sucks that he's not on the Tigers no more.
