Avila testing waters: Indications arose Monday that Al Avila, the Tigers' assistant general manager, will interview for the Arizona Diamondbacks' vacant general manager's position.

Avila joined the Tigers in his current role in April, 2002, soon after Tigers president Dave Dombrowski also became the general manager. Avila worked for several years under Dombrowski with Florida and contributed to the teams that won world titles in 1997 and 2003.

Avila has been a candidate for GM openings with other clubs in the last few seasons. He was a finalist for the GM job in Seattle two years ago.

The Arizona job became open when general manager Joe Garagiola Jr. took a job in the office of commissioner Bud Selig.

Seems like he really is a smart guy that has helped out Dombrowski alot. Be a shame to lose him, but good luck if he does end up getting this job.
