    Tigers Tigers Sign Everett

The Tigers have reached agreement with free-agent shortstop Adam Everett, according to a major-league source.

The deal will be worth approximately $1 million, plus incentives, and is pending a physical.

Detroit also made official its deal with the Rangers to acquire catcher Gerald Laird, meaning the Tigers have addressed their catcher and shortstop needs in the span of about 24 hours.

Everett hit .213 in 48 games for the Twins last season. He spent seven seasons with the Astros prior to his stint in Minnesota.
Everett is a glove man and that is it. That's a good thing for the Tigers. The Tigers offense will score enough runs to excuse Everett's poor production. Run prevention is the key here and the Tigers have addressed it for the second time in two days. They traded for the defensive minded Gerald Laird to be the backstop and now have signed Everett to lock down more territory. With as bad of a pitching staff as the Tigers have, defense is that much more important. Everett and Polanco up the middle with Laird and Granderson should make for a much, much better team defensively.

Good signing, IMO. Adam Everett has had some medical issues recently, but is a very good defensive SS, however.
